3 hours to go...and still haven't picked a winner. Lots of ideas, but seems like many haven't been based on the brief and follow-up comments. a lot are just too polished and static for my purposes. i know it's sort of abstract but i need a representation of my work with living systems and change, seasonally, moment-to-moment, growth. the depiction of nature and my way of working with it as a mechanic are important. it can't just be something that sits there. also there is a bit of rock and roll and counter-culture here, and i've been hoping to show subversion of the familiar mechanic's depiction through retro ads. if you think you can do this in an iconic way, please jump in!!!
Hi everyone! Seeing some good ideas and a lot of similarities between the drafts you've submitted. My feedback is in no way intended to be critical, but to help current and future designers to hone in a little more on what I'm after.
First of all, please visit my website at http://thelandmechanic.com. it's no web design miracle but you can read about my company, see some projects, and especially get a sense for the 'look' i'm after, including my existing, temporary logo, color schemes, font choices, etc.
In general i'm not looking for something slick. not interested in gradients. I'd like to see some more grunge. That to me suggests process and a bit of avant garde which fits my style. And leaves are ok but a highly stylized leaf is less ideal than real plant material silhouettes...detail is important.
The incorporation of process is crucial and in attacking this design myself i came up with a few possible methods. Process wheels, such as you see when an application or web page is loading (the iPhone version especially); changes in transparency; implied decay and/or emergence.
Re. fonts, i would like to see different retro qualities which means something sophisticated such as gothic, and something more playful, with roadside diner-influences. the fonts used so far are fairly generic. I'm probably not keen on using the letters graphically (for example, making the 'A' by using a leaf or something). The fonts used on my website are all free google fonts, and are: roboto condensed, contrail, slackey, pompiere, and archivo regular. i prefer using sans serif semibold (e.g. alternate gothic, betas neue, planeta) for the company name and something different, perhaps handwritten for the tagline.
As I mentioned in the brief, a key piece of marketing for me is my 1964 Ford Econoline Pickup. I will use it to increase visibility of my brand and communicate a fun yet utilitarian image. I would like to use "her" (her name is sweet pea) in my logo and/or consider how the logo could be incorporated into the truck's graphics. So I've uploaded some pictures here:
If she were to become an aspect of the logo, I envision a line drawing graphic that could either be sleek and sophisticated or a type of caricature that looks cool and fierce and hard-working but sweet and welcoming.
Her color is roughly hexadecimal #b8cf94 or Pantone 578C. This should be the primary green in the logo!
i've uploaded these files as well, which are retro mechanic's ads that could prove useful or inspiring:
MycroBurst permits you to submit unlimited designs with unlimited variations. However, if you are providing 2 or 3 different color versions of the same logo in one draft, please make sure that if the particular draft gets finalized, each color version should be separated before you will send the final files.

and finally before I head back to work, i do appreciate the interplay of figure and field where an element is created in negative, like here:

Thanks to you all so much, I'll check in later and offer more feedback.
