In an attempt to narrow things down, we have eliminated all submissions that we did not like, or where a designer has submitted better variations. We have also started to give some star ratings to show our current preferences, but we are still making up our minds and our opinions may change.
Personal messages with comments have been sent to the designers with submissions still in the running.
Please keep the entries coming; the contest is still wide open. With the deadline approaching, we will try to give more frequent feedback.
Sacril: I like Drafts 4 and 11, but still can't shake the fact that my first impression is one of a "road". Draft 19 is interesting, but I don't see a "P" in there; perhaps you can work some variations of that one too.
Draft 12: I think it is clever how you combined the "r" and the "P" in the icon and I like that idea; however, I don't like the fact that the "r" is lower case. Is there a way you can do something similar, but with an uppercase "R"? perhaps having the "R" surround the "P"? If you could make the intertwined letters look very subtley more like a building that might also be good. For the wordmark, please do not use larger case "R" and "E" in the word "RATHCLIFFE"
Project has been unveiled, and a number of drafts have been eliminated. I still haven't found one that I am entirely happy with, and I would like to see more submissions.
As a general guide, future drafts should adhere to the following:
1)The word "RATHCLIFFE" should appear on top of the word "PROPERTIES", both in all-caps
2)The word "RATHCLIFFE" should use a serif font (I am less particular about the font for the word "PROPERTIES" and open to suggestions). The letters in the word "RATHCLIFFE" should generally all be the same size -- avoid effects like in Draft 21 ("bubble" in middle) or Draft 12 (taller first and last letters).
3) The icon should probably try to incorporate the letters "R" and "P" in an abstract way. Subtle "building" connotations could also be included, but please no obvious gables, windows, etc.
Putting the word "RATHCLIFFE" on top of the word "PROPERTIES" seems to be the logical way to go in order to get a suitable aspect ration. Side-by-side words results in too wide a wordmark.
My preference is leaning towards a serif style font (rather than a sans serif font), at least for the word "RATHCLIFFE" -- it seems more conservative and distinguished. It would be nice to see some other more unique serif font options. I'd like for "RATHCLIFFE PROPERTIES" (without the icon next to it) to be able to stand alone as a unique wordmark, rather than just being run-of-the-mill text in an overused font.
Draft 4: This icon shows some promise. Suggest swapping colours for the left and middle elements of the icon (so that the "accent" colour is the middle element). Perhaps also play around with some variations on this icon -- I see a subtle "R" and "P" in there which is good; however the first impression of the icon is that it is for a road paving company, rather than a real estate company.
Drafts 1-3: I think "RATHCLIFFE PROPERTIES" looks best in all caps (not mixed case). Also, I think the icon works better in a roughly rectangular format, rather than circular. Please don't use overt buildings in the icon. Subtle or abstract usage of the letters "R" and "P" would be good in the icon. Of these three, Draft 2 seems to be the most appropriate, but I'd like to see more interesting variations.
MycroBurst permits you to submit unlimited designs with unlimited variations. However, if you show 2 or 3 different color versions of the same logo in one draft, please make sure that if that draft gets finalized, each color version is separated before final files are sent out.
