ICON clarification
-How stuff works icon should show gears or the insides of a machine or electronic devise- not a lightbulb or question mark
- Physiology and food for thought icon should represent how the body functions and how food assists these functions. Perhaps you have an idea that shows a human silhouette with the esophagus or lungs highlighted? How about a bite out of food?
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE refer to http://sheganjamal.squarespace.com/ksl-branding-images-for-mycrob/
There is a LARGE CHANCE we will be choosing a design that is more of a GRAPHIC ORGANIZER (with littleto no illustrative components and more of our foundations listed with shapes and lines to show how they are connected) rather than a illustrative image that cannot be separated.
Please try a few versions of a graphic organizers shown on the above website.
Here are your perimeters;
-Use the 5-6 block graphic organizer as a start. Experiment with color and abbreviations and font and how icons can be incorporated into a graphic organizer that uses these rounded squares.
-Use the arrows in a circle as a basis for another idea/version. Experiment with color and abbreviations and font and how icons can be incorporated into a graphic organizer that uses a circular structure. (Be careful with arrows though, we don't want our image to insinuate any sort of progression or order.)

Designers: The contest has been extended 3 days! We will be contacting those designers who have ideas that we like- we want to give you feedback on some more simplified imagery.
To all designers, we would like you to check out http://sheganjamal.squarespace.com/ksl-branding-images-for-mycrob/
and come up with a version of our five foundations that look like those featured on the above website. For instance, what can you do creatively that resembles the graphic organization of the circle with arrows? What can you do creatively that resembles the graphic organization of 5 squares? Think more graphic organizer than illustration for these- the more simple, the better.
On that website, we've also featured some ideas for icons to use for the Physiology and Food for Thought foundation. Physiology is anything having to do with how the body functions and food for thought represents how food helps these functions. Got ideas? Submit them!

Draft #50- great work! I like the drawings and the chalkboard without the word foundations. I also like addition of chalk sticks. Can I see this version with color or in bullets like the previous versions? Keep up the great work! More feedback soon...
Draft #56-58, Like the signs! The ladder version, #58 is interesting too. I like how you've taken the font of our logo and placed it on top, without the splash. More feedback soon...

Designers,
Keep up the great work. Our top ideas are the chalkboard, signs, and tree imagery. #42 is looking good and we like the icons chosen for both #42 and #44. Keep the ideas coming!
19 février 2011 21:47 KSLChicago Porteur du Projet
Really liking the sign ideas as in draft #33, 34, and 35!
Keep them coming!
19 février 2011 12:55 KSLChicago Porteur du Projet
We like #27 and #27 because they show our 5 foundations clear and in a sign format? Do you have more ideas? Keep them coming!
We also like draft #31, a chalkboard drawing. Any more ideas about that? The chalk drawings are good, but we would like to see the titles of our foundations separated, with bullets or icons. The chalkboard idea will work well with our website listing of our foundations, but the words and design on the board need to be able to stand alone for our other publications.
Keep showing us your best ideas!

Hey, LOOK AT LINK below, we put up examples of our own images that if you improve, you can win the contest. These are examples of simplicity!

Designers: NEW NEW NEW ideas! PLEASE READ!
After much thought, we decided that the KSL logo does not need to be in the design about the 5 foundations.... so, please dive deep into your creative brains and see if you can devise a design the solely focuses on the 5 foundations! Can't wait to see what you design!
Draft# 19 We are attracted to this because our logo is off center and not the center of attention. It has a clear background with an idea that links the foundations together. We LOVE the simplicity. However, the message says art, which we are not, so make sure the message adheres with our science center.
Got any ideas to use chalkboard drawings for our foundations?
We are looking for a quick visual that puts our 5 foundation titles together with simple shapes and colors.
Keep the designs coming and keep up the good work!
17 février 2011 21:40 KSLChicago Porteur du Projet
If anyone wants to experiment with solely using the 5 foundations and not the KSL logo, we are game for some options. We'd love to see if this enables more design ideas.
Similarly, if anyone wants to try adding a 6th Foundation, called NexGen Design Lab we are open to the options that might surface with having 6 foundations.
Keep up the good work!
As for Feedback:
Draft #21- I appreciate how different this design is! Can the apple and paintbrush be omitted or at least faded so they are not a visual focus? Also, can the colors be altered slightly to match those similar to the greens and oranges in our original logo. They are quite similar, but can they be made brighter?
Draft #22- Can I see what all the splash foundations look like as either puddles or with less splashes?
17 février 2011 09:34 KSLChicago Porteur du Projet
Thanks to all who are experimenting with new ideas and fonts. Keep them coming!
17 février 2011 09:30 KSLChicago Porteur du Projet
Draft #20- Thank you for your submission! We have tried images that deal with 6 and have found them to not work. I find the hands distracting because they are such as stark contrast to the design, logo and font.
Do you have any more ideas that show 5?
16 février 2011 19:38 KSLChicago Porteur du Projet
Thanks for the new design.
Draft #19 is god concept for our creativity and design foundation, however its to specific to that.
We would like to see a design that represents all of our 5 foundations. Thanks for more ideas!

Hello Designers. I've had a chance to think about the designs so far and don't think the hand imagery will work at all. There is a chance that we might invite older students to our center and a hand print is too elementary looking.
We are essentially asking you to create a design that organizes our 5 foundations in a creative way that is simple and clean but also complements the logo we already have.
Please do not change our logo or the way in which KSL could be abbreviated- I'm not a fan of collegiate lettering to abbreviate KSL.
We already have a cartoon-y nickelodeon style logo, so we are looking for our foundations to be cleaner, more graphic looking, rather than cartoon or childlike. However, the design needs to be kid friendly.
We have been attracted to white icon imagery placed on rounded squares in the past. Similar to Apple's marketing and application look. I've even thought about something that looks like a game of memory.
Please try different fonts. I'm not sure I like any that have been used so far.
I do not like the revision made to draft 18. The molecule sticks work better.
Draft #15 is much better now that our logo is on it. However, I do not like the font and feel the atoms are all on the same plane, even though they are on different orbits. Is there anyway create more depth? I think the font needs to be bigger or at least the atoms- I'm having a hard time seeing the titles of the foundations.
Draft #9 has a lot going on and we are looking for something much more simple.
I'm not sold on the tree imagery, so am asking designers to maybe try more "graphic organizing type" concepts instead of imagery to tie our logo and the 5 foundations together. I'd like to see what you can come up with on that idea.
Nonetheless, you all are doing great work, we truly appreciate your work and efforts!
15 février 2011 16:02 KSLChicago Porteur du Projet
Draft # 14 is my favorite so far! I like the depth the molecule creates and how the directions of the arms of the molecule insinuate a burst, which complements the logo.
Does anyone have ideas about fonts that would compliment the fonts used in our logo? Feel free to show them in a new design!
Keep up the good work!

All designers: We like the designs that incorporate our logo and stress the 5 Foundations we are trying to convey on our website.
Drafts 6, 7, 11, and 12 do this. We like draft #8 for the same reason, but would like to see our logo incorporated.
Keep up the fantastic job, I look forward to all future new ideas!

Lovely new designs!
Draft #11- Great solution by putting the tree into a planter! I also love the added drop shadow, it really makes the design pop against the dark background.
Draft #12- Thanks for another version of a hand/ handprint. I do however, like the first hand print design because it insinuates an actual print or making a mark.
Draft #9- I like the way the 5 foundations are placed on a sign that is being carried. I also like the small icons that were chosen to represent the foundations. I would like to see our logo represented in the design though...
These designs are great so far! Keep up the good work and keep thinking of ideas that represent our 5 Foundations along with our logo! Also, please note the changes that have been made to our brief for additional guidance. Thanks!
Designers: The design brief has been updated. Please have a look at it and produce further ideas.
Contest has also been extended for 2 days!

Draft #6- I love the concept of a handprint to represent the hands-on, kids friendly component to our center. Do you have any more ideas that utilize hands or handprints?
Draft #7- The tree concept is also good, as described in the brief, however, I cannot help but think of our logo being in the dirt. Any other solutions?
Draft #8- Atom/orbit idea is good too. We would like to see our original logo within the center.
These all are off to great start, thanks again for your submissions!

Thanks. I DO NOT need logo for Kids Science Labs. I need an image that shows all five teaching foundations....written as one image. The project is to put the following five teaching foundations as a single image, listing all five for a marketing piece:
physiology & food for thought
Planet earth & green technology
Creativity & design
Science Fundamentals
