Note to all designers: we are considering updating our tagline to "Seriously Neater Stuff!" from "Simply Neater Stuff!". At your convenience, could you please try to make this change in tagline to some of your NEW designs? No need to update the ones already submitted.

    Thanks!

We have just uploaded another notional design to megashares.com:

    http://d01.megashares.com/dl/cb8534b/HFQLogo3.jpg

This version of the design has several changes:

    - The center of the burner is now shaded. We think this it is necessary to have some color here to identify this part as the center of a gas burner.

    - The bars of the burner now extend slightly beyond the outside circle to better identify this as a gas burner.

    - We added some flames. These should probably be blue, the color of a gas flame.

    Two more comments:

    1. We would prefer that the compass needle be kept within the circle of the burner, as shown in the pencil drawing. We also like a fairly narrow needle, not much bigger than a burner bar.

    2. We like the colors black and gray (for the metal parts of the burner), blue (for the flame coming from the burner), orange (for the circular part with the company name) and possibly some green highights (for small leaves, chef's hat, pots and pans or other symbols related to food).

We are looking forward to seeing your ideas!
    Thanks.

Thanks for the new designs (#43 - #52)!

    Three quick comments:

    1. When we referenced the compass graphic yesterday, we were referring only to the needle on the compass, not the compass case. Designs #45, #47-#48 and #50-#52 all have compass cases in them - this is too "busy." Sorry for the confusion!

    2. Designs #43, #44 and #47 are nice - no compass cases - but the outside color circles are too wide. Please try to make the gas burner larger (relative to the entire image) and the color circle narrower.

    3. We really like the outside circle section of the gas burner that is visible in designs #13 and #14. These burners look much more life-like with the bars extending slightly beyond the circle. Also, let's try to keep the gas burner black. It is also more life-like.

    Thank you!

Thanks for all the new designs!!! And we're very happy to welcome 2 new designers to this project!

    Here are today's comments:

    - Let's forget completely about putting the facial features (2 round eyes and 3 arcs) inside the burner. This is not working well - it's too busy! And sorry for all the time and energy put into placing facial features in the logo...it's not going to work! We have learned our lesson.

    - We would like keep this logo very clean and simple. Could we go back to a 6 bar gas burner instead of 8 bars, with all 6 bars being the same width and length?

    - Instead of the facial features, could we try to add a compass needle inside the burner? See megashares.com link below, which shows a rough pencil sketch of this latest idea.

    http://d01.megashares.com/dl/40beed7/HFQLogo2.jpg

    - For an example of the compass needle, check out:

    http://www.fotosearch.com/UNC240/u18908420/

It would be ok to use the same color scheme - red and blue needle with gold center point.

    - We're not sure how we feel about flames coming from the burner. It's realistic, but sometimes it's too "busy." If flames are used, we would prefer uniformly-sized blue flames. Let's see what you can do with this...

    - Let's also leave out the directional N, E, S and W, to keep it simple. The needle can now symbolize the compass instead of the N/E/S/W.

    - We will look forward to seeing what you can do in the logo with the company name.

    - As much as we can, let's try to keep things SIMPLE and ROUND.

Thanks again for everyone's interest in this project. We are pleased with the results so far.

    Please go to:

    http://d01.megashares.com/dl/2c1905f/HFQLogo.jpg

and take a look at a design we have done ourselves in pencil.

    Some comments on this design:

    - There is a very subtle "face" in the middle of the burner with 2 "eyes" on the ends of the East and West burner bars, plus 3 evenly spaced arcs representing Hob's moustache and his thinning hair on the sides.

    - Let's not spend much more time and effort on putting facial features in the middle of the burner! If you like what we have done, you may incorporate it in your own designs. If not, that's ok, too.

    - We really like the combination of the burner and compass points as shown in our pencil design. The N, S, E and W outside the burner and the pointed tips on those 4 bars make this graphic look like a combined compass and gas burner. Let's try to keep the design simple inside the burner, as Starbucks has done.

    - We may need to put the company name (Hob's Food Quest) outside the burner. And we're willing to drop the tagline if it keeps the graphic simpler. Simple is good.

    Thanks!

Thanks for these latest designs. Comments on designs #12-16:

    - Facial features in #15 and #16 are too obvious. Using the gold center of the burner in #16, could we just slightly change the shape of the 3 openings in the burner center to more closely resemble eyes/ and either mouth/moustache - as done in #11, only a little more subtle? These facial features should be very, very subtle!

    - We like the burner points on the circular edge in #13 and #14, but there is no center of the burner and the company name is not in the ring. #12 is better in this regard, but it lacks burner/compass points on the circular edge as done in #13-16.

#11 is on the right track with the facial features incorporated into the center of the burner.

To recap what we like in each of the 3 current designs:

#11: facial features in the burner and the way the company name is fit into the circle.

#7: has the best overall shape and we like the way the burner and compass have been combined. Color combination of gold, tan and blue is appealing. Flames are nice. Company name could be more prominent.

#10 color scheme, green leaves and banner are all very nice.

    Hope this feedback helps!

Designs #8-10 are interesting and we're glad to see a new designer participating! The green color looks nice and we like the use of a banner.

#8 and #9 cannot be considered because they show a face, which we have decided we do not want. #10 doesn't appear to have any facial elements at all, however, which we would like to have.

Designs #8-10 also do not appear to feature any aspect of a gas burner (the "hob" in our name) so that would need to be fixed - see "Brief" for these details.

Lastly, we are a bit concerned that too heavy an emphasis on the captain's wheel will give the impression that Hob's Food Quest handles seafood or fish, which is not currently the case!

So let's stick mainly to the images of gas burners and compasses in our logo. Hopefully it will be possible to get some facial features (see earlier posts on this) incorporated into the center of the gas burner.

    Thanks!

Just reviewed drafts #7 and #8. To be a little more specific than the previous message, could we remove the shape of Hob's head from the logo altogether? Instead, could we substitute a variation of the round metal center of the burner in posted graphic 00502.jpg - which already has 3 oval openings somewhat resembling 2 eyes and a mouth? Perhaps those openings could be altered to more closely resemble some of founder Hob's facial features? We don't want the facial features of the burner to be too obvious upon initial examination. The idea here is that over time some segment of the public would gradually realize that the center of the burner bears a resemblance to founder Hob, which then creates a subsequent marketing "buzz." So we want those facial features to be very subtle...and we realize it may not be possible to get all 3 of those facial features (wire rim glasses, nose and moustache) incorporated into something resembling the center of the burner in graphic 00502.jpg.

Note to other prospective designers: we would also like to see other designs and ideas - thank you!

We have reviewed the first 5 drafts. We're off to a good start! A few comments for current and prospective designers:

    - We don't need Hob's full face in the design, handsome though it is! Our thought was to create some personality for the circular burner/compass/wheel image by endowing it with some stylized highlights of Hob's face, such as the glasses, nose and moustache. Kinda like the burner and Hob have merged into one new entity that is in quest of distinctive new foods!

    - It would be great to get at least the company name (if not the tagline) embedded in the circular image as done in #3, a la Starbucks and Arm & Hammer logos. If necessary, the tagline ("Simply better stuff!") could be outside the circular image or on a banner.

    - We like the blue flame effect in the burner - very clever!

    - We prefer the circular image in #4 and #5 because it is more lifelike (more closely resembles an actual burner and compass in this case) than the stylized version depicted in #3.

We look forward to future drafts!
