Rhythm Traders is a professional drum shop and web retail operation located in Portland, Oregon, and we need a new logo to help re-brand our company as we prepare to launch a new website and other new initiatives. We have been in business for 20 years, starting as an African hand drum shop in 1992 and becoming more of a full service drum shop over the last 12 years. Our original logo, which can be found all over our old/current site, is still beloved but doesn't accurately represent us now that we have grown into more than just an African drum shop. Now we carry everything from acoustic drum sets and cymbals to African hand drums and percussion to Latin drums and percussion to electronic drums and percussion, and we need a logo that communicates that we are now a full service, professional drum shop, with a selection of everything that drummers of all kinds could want. Our old/current site can be seen at www.rhythmtraders.com and a screenshot of our new site (work in progress) can be seen here: http://braadmartin.com/rhythmtradersnew.png. The new logo will most likely go where Rhythm Traders is written at the top of the page now. Our old logo is a character in an ethnic looking outfit that we have adapted to the various parts of our site, so he plays African hand drums in some versions and plays latin drums and snare drums in other versions. You can see him on the screenshot of our new site hanging out in the left sidebar, but we do not expect him to remain there. We are looking to replace him with an entirely new logo because we want to move away from his "ethnic" image, we want one logo to represent our brand in all situations, and we want to convey the idea that we are more than just a hand drum shop. We will still sell all of the hand drums and world drums that we are known for, but with this new logo we want to be known more as a professional drum shop with a wide selection of instruments and information for all drummers, especially drum set players. |

We are open to any colors that the artist would like to try, but we will be using the following colors on our new website: #000000, #00FFFF, #FF0000, #00FF00, and a range of greys from #111111 to #444444. Please feel free to experiment with other colors, just know that in general our new site will be a bit high contrast with black or dark edge regions and a white background for the center content area. The logo should have a transparent background, and we will likely use it on our site with a black textured background and on a clean white background for other purposes. |

We are attracted to the idea of the logo having depth, even being 3D, as we are using shadow techniques to give our new website the appearance of depth. We do not want a logo that looks flat or plain. We want the logo to look exciting and energetic. Drums are loud, powerful, and rhythmic, and we want a logo that looks alive and matches the energy of drum music. The typeface should be clear and simple, and perhaps bold. We want something that stands out and looks current. In the past we have used the Eaglefeather font, which can be seen in the way Rhythm Traders is written in the screen shot of the new site, and we encourage designers to use this font if possible, but in our own efforts we could not arrive at a logo that we really loved using this font, so feel free to experiment with other fonts. We do have a sign attached to the front of our store in Portland that has Rhythm Traders written in the Eaglefeather font, and we would like to keep using it if we can, but it tends to look a bit thin and classic, and we want to move in the direction of bold and modern. We will need the logo in a range of formats, from basic JPG to a vector format that can be easily resized. PSD files and other adobe file types are ideal. Please do not use any stock images or clip art in the logo. |
