#52 - the font is still a bit too "frou frou" - VERY pretty, but too much "style" over "substance" which I have to avoid. Other than that, this has it all: proportions (icon-to-type), style (ascending, inspiring nugget) , colors (might be best part), and even capitalization in the right places (really like the de-emphasized ".com")
ok, back and problems all cleared up. Just a few hours left, and here's where I'm at:
Prefer #49 over #48 - love color use/composition and crispness the white space gives, and especially the overall "updraft" and "rising" feeling. Also like that it invokes the idea of a "cup" of something, which alludes to the daily nature the brand. Don't love the font - script is too frivolous, but the font in #48 is too juvenile. Looking for "wise but welcoming" or "serious but approachable".
#47 - love the font but the "glow/fade" isn't working. I like the white glow in the middle, but not all the way up - it detracts from the impact. Like having the heart element, but the flower on top just isn't working. Maybe there's some way to incorporate a more vivid flower INTO the heart (not on top) without losing the upward/rising feeling?
#38 and #39 - I love having a heart in the center and the ethereal feeling of "rising promise" (with compassion) that it gives. I wonder if it's possible to add some white space and distinguish the colors a little more and still retail that "glow"? Not sure I can detect the difference between the two designs, unless it's font size in which case I prefer the smaller of the two. While I prefer this font to #37, it still feels a little "frail". Looking for "wisdom that's welcoming" and "serious in a good way".
Thanks for all your hard work on this, and I'm thrilled to have designs I love to choose from, and just sorry that I have to choose only one...
UPDATE: I've been having trouble viewing all the submitted designs. I'm getting the emails notifying me that they are being submitted, but when I check the website they are not there. I've submitted a ticket to get help on this, but bear with me please...
I appreciate your comment Nessa, and don't find it disrespectful. I had no idea that I would hear from you again or see any more designs from you. The nature of this contest format is that we both take risks. I was beginning to worry that I might end up with a logo I didn't love.
You are right that I want an "upward feeling" - and I get that feeling from draft #30, even thought the logotype is flat (and on the bottom). I think it must be the "sunrise" feeling to the orb. The orb, by the way was one of the elements I liked best about your designs (probably for the same reason).
Although I originally thought private messages were the best way to preserve everyone's interest (and sent you one), I soon realized that they didn't serve mine. I tried to be as forthcoming as I could be about what I was looking for, what I liked, and what I knew I wanted to be changed.
Frankly, while it incorporates a heart, a lotus flower and an orb, draft #30 doesn't resemble or plagiarize any of the previous designs. And draft #33 is also 5 stars, so the new design didn't somehow "trump" his, it just gave me a very welcome option.
Thanks for your support in choosing the the logo that best suits my business.
I don't mean to be disrespectful, but dear PH didn't You use these words yourself "I'm definitely looking for a logo that has an "upward" feeling to it (not a horizontal or lateral one, or a top down design. "? I believe You did. If I'm not misunderstanding anything your words are in contradiction with the five stars on draft 30. Also, I do believe it's quite unjust to the other designers to come to a project at the last minute, read all the comments and come up with a design which is a combination of the other designs the PH liked. If I'm not mistaken Bmaczz did a lot of work and the heart idea was theirs.
Nevertheless, I hope you chose the logo that best suits your business.
Initial reaction to draft #30: oh, I love that! Need to get some buy-in and approval, but that seems to have everything I am looking for... Just wondering if maybe the logotype should be a bit smaller relative to the beautiful, distinctive and very "on brand" icon?
Wow - draft #28 is very interesting and I really like the yellow glow and how it gives a "rising" feel to the flower. The typeface and colors work well to be efficient but not off-putting with really good emphasis on "Tidbit". I'm sad not to have the "orange" color though and miss the inclusive feeling that the multi-color gives.
I'm afraid draft #27 doesn't work with the yellow heart (brown is better) although I think I would like seeing "a Day" down below if it didn't look distorted.
I think the coloring in draft #24 is the best so far with the green heart. If there was only some way to incorporate/superimpose glowing yellow - an orb, a rising sun, something that "brings light"...
Thanks for these Bmaczz - I'm really liking how they're coming out! I think the heart works better without the "legs". I'd also like to see how the "center glow" that you had in draft #18 would look now inside the lotus flower. I'm very happy to see that this is really starting to look like a "tidbit" logo.
But I think I'd like the symbol/design larger relative to the type - even though I know the website name is the point. What about if you split the name and put "a Day.com" down below? I'm thinking two things: for one we'd get a more compact, overall rounder logo, and it would also make the word Tidbit stand out a bit more. Or, it might look silly - I can't be sure 'til I see it...
The other thing left is color. Besides not having settled on brown or green for the "heart", I'd love to bring in a softer, brighter "glow" color (like yellow?). I didn't care for the greenish background (as much as I love the green) and I'm not feeling like the brown is "it".
I'm really looking forward to the next designs. I've freed up for a while and should be able to be responsive again!
I really like drafts #22#23 and #24 - I'm thinking maybe we should lose the "legs" and go with just the "heart" holding up the flower. I have to think about the color/shading and how this will work in different usages (on website, in emails, as "avatar", etc.) Wondering if some type of shade/fading of yellow in the background might help better define the logo space? Love the font - feels "tidbitty", and brown seems to work for the name.
What about a brown heart, so we could use the green in with the other colors of the lotus flower? But I love the green color and like it having a large part of the logo... Sorry to ramble - I'm rushing and out of time!
Bmaczz, the colors, look and feel is getting close - serious but approachable, and draft #16 has the better font, although I'm not crazy about the wavy "tidbit". I like the idea of it standing out, but in a more credible way, not a fancy way. But the overall design still feels "bottom heavy" and "rooted" rather than "uplifting" and "reaching". Not sure the lotus and heart will work on top of each other. I'm looking for a symbol/design that conveys a "nugget of wisdom" that will improve your life. I'm sorry I can't be more specific.
I really like the feeling of draft #15, but still needs refinement. There's a little bit of Rorschach (sp?) going on... is that a lotus "ring pop" inside a strawberry? :)
But the color balance is really nice. How about trying all caps on this (but in a smallish size so it doesn't overwhelm the graphic...)
Bmaczz - I forgot to mention that I think the type belongs on top... maybe this will solve the headless problem? Unless you have another way to give it an "upward reaching" feeling. I like the all caps, but think maybe not such an elongated font, and I'm not sure about the dropped "A"s, but I like the color variation that makes "tidbit" and "day" stand out!
Bmaczz, draft #11 is my favorite of these three, b/c it includes the lotus and has the better base shape. I really like the heart idea but it feels "headless". Using the lotus as the head probably wouldn't work. Is there some other way to play up "tidbit" (not the word, the symbol) and keep some of these elements?
Nessa: draft #7 is better than draft #8 or draft #9 - logo must be substantial and not "ethereal". I still prefer the overall look of draft #6 with the yellow orb/orange figure (sorry if my comments are confusing), but I do like the blue/green on the logotype. I think I'd like a slightly more serious font, or maybe all caps?
Ah - draft #6 has more of an inspirational feeling to it, but I think I'd like more blue and green over the yellow. San serif type is probably better too. Tidbit is definitely one word.
Nessa, you've got the yoga idea in draft #3, but it's more literal than I had in mind - I'm hoping for a symbol more than a picture, and the idea of a "tidbit" overhead (either abstractly representing the head, or maybe the logotype in an arc or ?)
I'm worried that my directives are ill-advised and maybe preventing you from doing what you do best. That said, maybe an abstract set of arms holding up a lotus flower - the "tidbit" - might work? :)
Thanks for these Bmaczz, I do like draft #2 better with the bright center - I'm not able to detect any other differences. I kind of like the lotus flower, but was thinking lotus position (in yoga). I was playing around with a caligraphy-style figure of a lotus pose with arms up encircling head. Maybe something there or not...
I'm not crazy about the type - I think either 4 colors is too much, or that "tidbit" just needs to be all one color. The gray shadow is distracting and the font (maybe it's the colors?) seems a bit too playful.
Would love to see the symbol more dominant and visually expressive than the logotype, which is more of a reminder/identifier...
