Beyond the project brief, please allow me to add additional suggestions to help you achieve the design concept I seek.
Surmount Healthcare Consultants is a start up small firm that is in the healthcare arena, but is far removed from providing actual medical care like hospitals and physicians. Therefore, the use of a strong medical cross does not fit this company's business model.
The logo itself should somehow strongly convey the definition of surmount, which means "to overcome; be on top of, or get beyond obstacles".
The initial business function of this firm is to negotiate managed care contracts between insurance companies and hospitals, physician groups, etc. The business will also provide consulting services to improve operations, efficiency and workflows in the healthcare space.
Style: Think about a well respected company with a bunch of middle aged guys in white shirts and dark pin-striped suits sitting in a Board Room with an oval cherry desk. This is the image I am trying to convey: CORPORATE, PROFESSIONAL, REGAL & ESTABLISHED.
Designers: All of you are very talented. Can we try to mix it up and get away from the medical cross symbol and globe. I like the globe concept, and it still may win out in the end, but I'd like to see something different. This is a consulting business in the healthcare space, but the company does not provide medical care. The company consists of conultants who help insurance companies and hopitals improve their operation, systems, etc.
I tend to like the horizontal design the best. Surmount must be very prominant. The definition is to be atop or overcome obstacles.
I sent you additional feedback. This is a consulting firm, not in the business of actually providing healthcare, so the medical cross is not necessary, and should be faint, if used at all. I am looking for an established, polished and classy look, as decision makers will be in their 40's and 50's.
Which of my designs do you like best? Vertical or horizontal placement? Do you like the 3D crosses, or the broken up cross around the name? Any suggestions?
Re: #1 - The globe with the embeded medical cross and abstract "S" is unique, although I am not bound to it. The font for Surmount is too strong and galactic in appearance. I am looking for something more refined. Do not hesitate to use alternative colors other than what was suggested in the brief. I am open to all concepts.
