PH, please check messages. Are you focused towards the sportbike market or Harley/Custom market? I would assume by the ratings that it is a sportbike market. Corporate, clean with a (little) bit of edge. I have sent a few message with questions but no response as of yet.

    Hi All,

    Observations through submission 53:

The following are our favorites so far, and why. I'm hoping that, by explaining what we specifically like about a few of them - and what we don't - that one of you excellent designers will nail it in the next few days:

#14: I like the conceptual nature of the design within the shield. We didn't understand what it was exactly - we just liked it - until the designer submitted #34 and #36. And then we liked it even more.

#29: I like the use of the two colors in the motorcode script. I also like the shield, and how it divides the black and red with the "mc" script. What I don't like about it is that it is the shape is just too close to the Ducati logo.

#32: We really like this one because of the shield looking like a US freeway sign, and the creative "road" lines through the shield. We don't like the script used for motorcode. Not sharp enough.

#38: We love the font used for motorcode on this one. Well done.

#41: We really like the revised shield. Excellent stuff. The not-so-obvious M is pretty cool. The font used for motorcode is a bit too science fiction for us, and not enough "road warrior."

#47: We like this one, and love the detail. But it doesn't feel quite right for motorcode. It's a little too refined, and feels more like the logo for a motorcycle product or organization as opposed to apparel.

#51 & #52: These two are our favorites so far. I like the use of the M in the basic logo on #51, and I like the conceptual combination of the M and the spade in #52. It makes me feel as if this logo is versatile, which it will have to be to suit our purposes. I'm not crazy about the font used in motorcode, however. I don't dislike it, but I don't love it. I'd like to see something sharper, something that feels more like some of the other fonts I've pointed out as good.

#53: If we were to pick a motorcode font that we like the most from the ones we've seen so far, this would be it. The symbol is not quite right, but the font has just the right amount of menace to appeal to the motorcycle subculture. Whether it's a man or woman riding the motorcycle, they like to feel tough. I think this font reflects that pretty well.

Thank you for all of the submissions so far. I hope my thoughts on what is liked and not liked about a few of them help inform future submissions.

    Hi All,
Here are some individual comments to maybe help steer all of us in the right direction. I've kept some of the designs "in the hunt" in order to better guide future designs:

#3: I like the flames (to a point) and the inverted shield. The "Motorcode" script is too straightforward. I'd like it the motorcode script to be more distinctive.

#12: Though it's not the right design, the fact that the designer separated "motor" and "code" into different colors is good idea.

#19: I like this one, but unfortunately it's too close to Harley's logo for their Fat Boy motorcycle. I know this because I used to ride a Fat Boy. Probably why I like this attempt, too. :-)

#20: I like this one a lot. It's elegant, clean, timeless. But, as many of you may note, the logo's main element is the "road going off into the distance," which, though perfect for what we're doing, is already the main element in Ducati's shield.

#25: I like the script used here for "motorcode." Not that it's perfect, but it has a little more character than some of the others being used. It's important that motorcode is distinctive, because we intend to use the script as well as any accompanying symbol both together and separately.

#14 & #18: I like the originality of the shields on these two. That said, a shield in the logo is not necessary. It's just an idea that seems to make sense, given the purpose of our company. More than anything, we're looking for something distinctive and recognizable (like everybody else, right?).

Thanks again for your time and effort.

    Hi All,
Here are some additional comments and guidelines based on what we've seen through submission #25:

Though we are big fans of Ducati, and though we like shields, some of the designs are too close to Ducati's logo. Drafts #14, #18, #19 and #25 are in the right ballpark from a perspective of originality, though wings (such as on draft #19) are ubiquitous in the motorcycle subculture and we might want to avoid them in the logo. That said, there needs to be a little more "attitude" or "edge" to the designs. I know, I know. I've been a marketing director for 15 years and have heard clients give me those same non-specific, "feel" directions. I apologize in advance. But that's what we're looking for. Look to Icon (http://www.rideicon.com) and even the Affliction brand of clothing for the correct attitude. Please do not follow a path down the all-too-common heraldic/medieval/gothic Affliction look. We like their attitude, but not the death imagery, and we're not trying to be mini-Afflictions. Keep in mind we are an apparel company aimed at the motorcycle subculture, so we need a logo that "speaks" to that group, so the logo should be a fashion statement in its own right.
Thanks for your effort and time.
