    There is a tie

I was going to pick one of the designs immediately, but the designer did not follow instructions carefully and in the process of sending numerous messages to correct the design, a decision was made to consider yet another design.

So the final decision will be based on feed-back I receive from an outside source.

    Attention designs

Once the contest ends, there will be no more time for changes as you know. So make sure there are no last minute mistakes or mistakes.

We have 22 hours left in the competition.

If you accidentally placed the same final design twice (the one inside the HD TV) I will erase the duplicate.

Regardless of who wins, I want to make this beneficial to all of your by showcasing your work. It is also beneficial seeing how your design would look on TV.

You all have been a great team. I love your positive disposition and enthusiasm. I will surely invite you to the next competition.

You are all artist. Do not get discouraged if you did not win. This competition is not based on the greatest artist amongst you. It is based solely on the design that best interpreted the goals of "Simply Austin" TV show, and who followed my suggestions.

    Good Luck

Some of you are not following directions.

Use only the TV supplied. Place your final design on the screen of the TV.

Do not place any other artwork in this file only what I asked.

It is not fare if some have an advantage over other. For this reason I specially asked that the same TV graphic be used.

If you believe your design is strong, you shouldn't have to go to extra efforts to bring attention to your submission. Let your work speak for itself.

If you have a problem with the file let me know.

    Thanks

I have not given the final star ratings. So disregard what you see.

There are some that still need to add logos to the HDTV.

I will no longer make comments on artwork. Final work is due now.

We are coming to a close soon.
Thanks everyone for your hard work.

Once the final selection has been made. I will leave a detailed closing statement.

Hello everyone. When posting your designs on the HDTV file I have provided, do not include an additional design on the bottom. I want to be able to see the design with a full screen. You are at a disadvantage when I can hardly see your design. Thanks

Since some of you used bats in your design. I wanted to give you more info. Other designers will see other bridges in Austin, other buildings not only bats.

Bats can't not be the dominate idea of this logo. Has to have an original idea.

I am sharing this with everyone, since I shared it with a designer

I have viewed hundreds of logos in Logoguru. So I have a good idea whats out there.

    1) Please do not use a design you have already used in another contest.

    2) Please don't use anything that looks like something already out there. It won't work

    3) In order to win you really HAVE TO READ THE BRIEF. I don't want you to spend time on this competition or enter this competition if you are not willing to find out what I am looking for and serious about my needs. (this does not apply to designers I have already established a relationship with)

I am thinking about extending the time to give everyone an opportunity to make adjustments.

This project means a lot to me. Your positive attitudes and professionalism means the world to me. That is why I am trying so hard to answer all of your questions and give you suggestions.

A winning logo can help my future in this field. Your awesome design can put money in this project and then I will come back again for your help. I will invite you to other competitions whether your design was chosen or not. BUT first, I need you to design an awesome looking TV logo.

    For new submitters:

Don't be afraid to try something new
Don't be afraid to think outside the box
If you have 5 minutes, check out other TV logos. Learn something about Austin. This info will give you an edge over the designers who are not really reading the materials and doing their homework.

    Thanks everyone!

For the new designers that entered the contest. In order to be on the right track you MUST read my detailed brief and follow these notes. I clearly stated

    1) no corporate looking logos
    2) no western, texas, cowboy, or state capitols as the main focus.

    3) It is vital that you understand what the logo is for and what "look" we need for an Austin audience. Time is winding and we I have little time to repeat the same message

I really like this logo because of how the colors are coming together, the modern look of it without having to be too complex. I like simplicity in this current project:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Today_Show_(Australia)_logo.png

    Also:
"Project Runway, Simple one color and a reversed color -- it works
"ER" the ER stands out in a green background. Modern and bold.

The colors make the design stand out. Sometimes the design only needs two colors to make a statement.

Logos do not have to be overly designed, not clunky. Everything should be customized and come together in harmony. This is what distinguishes a stand out logo design from clip art. Clip art looks put together, any one from anywhere can use the same clip art, but a custom design makes the logo look especially designed for that project.

Try changing your color to change the look of your logo. I have sent out personal messages about this.

    More about the look:

The look depends on who will be watching the television show. Only one designer asked me this vital question. Without knowing the answer, it will be hard to come up with the appropriate look for the TV show. After she asked me "who will be watching" I posted the info.

No one asked me when they will be watching. I posted about that as well by saying that many of the scenes will be filmed in the day, but it is not limited to that time slot. I want a logo that transcends time.

I hope this helps some of you who were seeking more directions.

    More clues:

When I am deciding on the best design, I ask myself, "which logo looks more like Austin's cool, hip laid back style?"

The best looking logo will not necessarily win, it will be the one that reflects the city and style or culture of the city. Has anyone heard of the "Keep Austin Weird" campaign?

Not looking for a weird logo, but wanted you to know that Austin isn't New York, or Dallas which is more stylish. Austin is very casual. So the logo again has to reflect this.

Also we have to think, is this going to be about the night life or will it be shot in the morning.

Very dark logos can work, and have worked. But keep in mind if the show will be serious or funny. Who is watching? It will not be targeted towards an upscale audience grand ma or college graduates?

If you have any questions about any of this and the demographics contact me.

    New designs submissions.

Would like to see less dark colors in new designs.

Please avoid dark backgrounds unless the logo is white or colored.

Think fun, exciting, cool, hip – but not childish and super plain Jane.

Image you logo on a t-shirt, on a banner, or business card. Then image it on a TV screen. Keep this in mind when designing.

    Porteur du Projet

    Attention all designers.

    1) Try to avoid overly round fonts. It risk the chance of looking feminine. This is not the look we are going for.

    2) Fonts that are too light will be hard to see and will be overpowered by colors, graphics or background. They also risk the chance of looking like something for fashion or feminine.

3)Fonts with lines drawn through them look too corporate and also not original. I have seen this tried already 3 times in this contest. See Hyatt's logo.

If you want to win this contest your work has to stand out and look "Simply Austin" When I see your design, I have to picture it on a TV screen or on page 1 of my proposal.

    4) Again, no conservative corporate looking designs. These look more put together and not customized.

    5) Again, if you are not sure about anything, make sure to re-read the brief and check out all of the links and files. If you listen to my clues and feed-back you have a strong chance of winning. I am not looking for something complex. Simplicity wins on this one.

    6) Make sure that "Simply" is not so small that it gets lost in the design. The design should have a look and feel of perfect harmony or synergy.

Thanks everyone. I am enjoying this. Again sorry, about not commenting yesterday. We had a storm and there was no internet or over 1.5 days.

    Porteur du Projet

Please don't judge the contest by someone else's rating. I might like something one day and then choose something totally different in the end. I change rating frequently when I compare them with others.

One design might be very good, but not right for this project-you the designer do not know these things. You might think I will choose that design, but might end up choosing something completely different. I am writing you this to encourage all of you.

From this point forward, the majority of feed-back will be given to you privately.

When contacting me about your design please include your # – otherwise it might take much longer for me to find your work and get back to you.

    IMPORTANT

    1) Please do not design anything that looks stereotypical Texas. See my brief about this, and no designs with dominate Texas stars or the state Capital being dominate in the design.

What this does is makes the artwork look too generic and borderline clip art like.

Austin does not have the look or feel of Dallas or Houston. Think more like San Francisco.

    2) The design has to have a touch of sophistication and modern look.

    3) Avoid solid colored backgrounds and type only. If the color was removed we would only have simple type which sinks into the Abyss. Here are two cases where dark or colored backgrounds work, when the font is customized: The "House" design would work in this case because of the already customized logo, "Gossip Girl," "Heros" and "Breaking Bad" (totally awesome abstract and nice) many others "Project Runaway" simple but right on target. "I Love Lucy" is black and white and has stood the test of time. Still looks as good as it was 55 years ago. "The Price is Right......you get my point?

When you go for something using standard font only with out repositioning it, doing something or adding something even a bold color combo (i.e "Mad Men") it doesn't look professionally designed at all. It tells your client that you might be new, afraid, not using your inner creative talent or have not mastered Illustrator.

The "House" logo is very simple but striking. Even the "30 Rock" design is very simple, but it works.

I am saying this because I realize that not all of you are professional seasoned designers and I want you to have every bit of an opportunity to shine.

So think concept before submitting. Please don't submit something redesigned from a previous project.

Please take all of what I have said as constructive, don't be disappointed if your design didn't get the type of response as you might have anticipated. In the end, it is not about the designer, but about what designs work for the vision of the client and the project.

Good luck everyone and thanks for your input

    #39 and 40

Looks too conservative, something found in a political newspaper or online. Needs to be more customized more modern and sophisticated. Doesn't have an Austin vibe. Google "Austin Vibe" in Google images. You will understand where I am coming from. You have to get a feel for the city of Austin to see the big picture. Thanks, I appreciate your input

#32 Very creative take on the bats, and that caught my eyes however, the all around look is too feminine for this project.

#19 this just wouldn't work in black and white. It would be a solid shape with no form.
