Well, this was a difficult decision for me. I honestly wasn't expecting to see several designs that I really liked. Having never used this site before, I didn't know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised to encounter so many talented designers. Thanks again to all who worked with me on the project and good luck to you!
TinTownGraphics, I like the look of your last draft set, but I think I prefer your previous. With design specs like this, I know it's a fine line between cartoony and whatever the hell it is that I'm asking everyone to design, but I think this one is a little cartoony for what I want. Then again, I think all the designs from everyone have been progressively going in that direction. But, like I said, it's difficult, especially when I've said I didn't want too much detail and realism.
Just for fun, huh? Looks like you are secretly sick of the pig and you're putting it out of its misery. People are going to look at your portfolio and say, "What kinda project was this for, and what kinda maniac was running it?" I don't know what the answers to that question are. ;)
Oh, wow...I didn't even notice the lab coat --- it was pretty subtle (and you're right about going blind looking at all these drafts!). I love both of the elements, to be honest. Your recent drafts have been really nice. Only thing I could say (if you are looking for feedback that's more than "I like it") is maybe make the lab coat less subtle? But, again, it's not a huge deal. I really like the recent designs.

There were 2 changes recent changes to my design that I wanted your input on.
1) Lab coat
2) Smile (a few drafts back).
Any feedback on combining or eliminating any of them? (Don't know about you, but I'd go blind trying to identify all of these subtle changes!)Heh
licardojjvt, thanks for implementing those elements in draft #180. I really like the way it came out.
Azhdias, thanks for submitting some drafts. I know there are lots of comments that I've posted, but I'm looking for a more gloomy feel. I keep stressing the word sinister when it comes to the appearance of the pig, and you draft comes off to me as good-guy superhero look, if that makes any sense. I also would like the test tube and flask to figure more prominently in the logo, rather than appear slightly hidden.
Man, yudinata, another design? I like the look --- maybe a little dark, but it's really cool. Just not the look I'm going for, unfortunately. I imagine you're mostly just experimenting with different designs.
TinTownGraphics, I have to say, the coloration in #168-#170 is not half bad, but I think my favorite is still #171.
igikbuang, I like how your new drafts came out. I think I prefer the coloration of the flask in #172. Maybe play with different background colors?
licardojjvt, I like your draft #174, but would be curious to see it with the shadow style of #161, but instead of the shadow being an outline, have it filled in. Does that make sense?
TinTownGraphics, man you gave me a lot to think about! Those are some interesting concepts you came up with. I don't think I was ever intentionally cagey in my description with what I wanted, so I figured just explaining I wanted a sinister-looking mad scientist was sufficient. Since you introduced the newer elements, I think I should add that, while the pig is evil and experimenting with planet Earth, he is likely unaware that his experimentation has ill effects --- he thinks what he's doing is positive, if that helps at all. Initially I didn't imagine a full psychological profile was necessary for the logo, but since you gave me the explosives, I thought I should mention that. ;) That said, really cool ideas, but maybe a little off the mark in what I'm going for.
igikbuang, I like draft #156, and if I had any feedback, I'd say maybe try a lab coat on the pig --- I forgot to mention that earlier with this newest draft. I just don't want to get too far from the scientist look. The test tube and flask may imply scientist, but a random unclothed pig holding test tubes may confuse people.
licardojjvt, I like the pig coloration and shadow in #157 & #158. I like the type of shadow in #161, but I prefer the style of the shadow in #162 (filled shadow rather than outline shadow). If you get a chance to combine these elements, I'd be interested to see it.
TinTownGraphics, I like those new drafts, but don't have a whole lot of feedback right now, believe it or not. I'm just kind of at a loss for changes to the design (not that it's a bad thing). I guess it makes more sense that it's "black space" and not a border...heh.
licardojjvt, thanks for trying out the red coloration in the new drafts. My comment is that they no longer look like growing red eyes, but more like red eyeglasses. I was picturing a evil, glowing red eye look. My only other issue is that the expression on the pig seems mischievous --- I'm looking for a sinister appearance.
TinTownGraphics, the color samples in #128 were a great way of doing that --- it allowed me to compare some side by side. I think A1, B1, C3 are my favoites (perhaps leaning towards A1) although you gave me really good colors to look at. I really like the way #127 look, and the main thing I'd say about #129 is that I'm not incredibly fond of the wide border.
igikbuang, I really like the pig's expression in #135 best out of the drafts you submitted. I'm thinking the border could be a little thicker --- it's the same thickness as the border around the pig, and perhaps that's why it's bothering me visually.
licardojjvt, welcome to the contest and thank you for your submissions. Maybe try #142 with glowing red eyes on the pig? I'd be curious to see how that looks. Also, I'd like to see the image of planet Earth clearly visible inside the flask. I like how you gave me a different look with the spilled contents, but I'd rather the pig hold the flask. He's a mad scientist and it's his experiment, so he's holding onto it very carefully --- I don't want him to seem careless with the contents of the flask. Thanks for the submissions!
I posted a draft of color samples. It sometimes gets overwhelming to have a bunch of drafts that are nearly identical. And cofusing too -- if another designer submits a draft in the middle of it. Feel free to request enlargements of any or all of them. I gave call letters to make it easier.
TinTownGraphics, those drafts look great! If you get the chance, I'd like to see #125 without the shadow on the ground, with maybe a circular border, and a solid fill background (not necessarily black, but gloomy). Or, if you're playing with colors and find a color you like that isn't necessarily "gloomy", feel free to submit it. This is hands down my favorite set of drafts you've submitted so far.
igikbuang, I hate to say this, but I'm a bit stumped right now. I'd love to be able to tell you exactly what I'd like to see your design look like. I like the pig image and I like the colorization of the pig in #120 & #122. I would like a border around the pig image, as well. I did like the shadow in #114, but it seemed to work best for your design when it was paired with a lighter, contrasting fill color inside the border, like in #115. I'm not all that crazy about the liquid/fumes coming out of the test tube in #120 & #121. All in all, a lot of good elements in these designs.
yudinata, I think I like the appearance of the fumes in #112 better than #118, but to be honest, I hadn't even thought about it until you submitted the new draft.
igikbuang, I like the colorization of #114, for some reason the black/gray shadow effect in #116 doesn't look as good to me in your draft as it does in submissions from other designers. I'm not sure why, but it doesn't feel right to me. I will think of more specifics.
I'm glad to hear that! The process has been a lot of fun for me, to be honest.
yudinata, on second though, I think the blue/green coloration provides a nice contrast. Draft #99 looks great. I appreciate you trying that for me. Maybe leaving everything in #99 the same except for changing to a gray to black gradient like in drafts #102 & #103.
TinTownGraphics, thanks for giving me a lot of different looks. Drafts #92 & #104 are definitely jumping out at me. I think the green for the test tube/flask is fine afterall for the same contrast reason I mentioned above. I'm really liking the idea of the logo being contained within a circular border. Whether or not the shadow in #92 would work in that sort of scenario, I'm not sure. Something about the pig's mouth is just rubbing me the wrong way and I can't put my finger on it. I know it's difficult to capture "sinister" in a facial expression, especially when I can't express exactly what I think that looks like. I don't hate the look of the mouth, but it seems just slightly off.
mimasivri, I think I prefer the circular border to the hexagon, but I thank you for giving me another perspective. For some reason, a single solid color still seems better. I feel like it has more pop. These logos from you guys look so sharp, I feel like a lot of color or effects in the background draws attention away from the primary element in the logo. I know I mentioned the idea of using color to create a dismal sort of mood, but I'm just not 100% certain on how to accomplish that.
Your comments are NOT frustrating, at all. It's awesome to be able to get into the mind of the project holder. This is by far the most useful participation I've encountered. You're good at it, and I know it takes quite a bit of time and energy to take the steps you're going through. It's appreciated.
yudinata, I like the look of gray in #82, and while it may seem plain to some, I think it works --- it's murky, drab and goes well with a shadowy look. The one element I'm not all that crazy about is the cast shadow. My feeling is that, with this logo, if there is a border, I'd prefer everything contained inside of it. I think without that cast shadow, #82 looks really sharp. Maybe also try that draft with a black/gray gradient for the globe instead of blue/green?
TinTownGraphics, I'm digging #88 in general. Is his tongue sticking out? Not sure if I'm feeling that --- feels like it takes away from the seriousness of the pig. I know I might be frustrating you because I'm kinda boring and plain-jane with some of requests, but I want to keep it simpler with the fill inside the border. I definitely understand you giving me different looks, so that maybe something unique catches my eye, but the more and more I see cast shadows or lighting effects, the more I'm convinced I want to keep it simple.
It's much the same thing with mimasivri's drafts #89 and #90. Those were ideas that were worth playing with, but I think in the end, it makes the logo too busy, you know?
Will comment soon to frustrate and aggravate everyone all over again!
TinTownGraphics I like #71 & #72 quite a bit. I like that you completed some drafts with a border (#77 & #78), but I think I would prefer a simpler look, with a solid background color and maybe a different color than green. I know I made this comment earlier, but I've been trying to figure out what makes me look at the logo and think "mouse" rather than "pig". Maybe it's the cheeks? I don't know. Just a thought. In general I'm very happy with this design.
yudinata, your new drafts (#73, #74, #75, #76) are a nice new perspective, but I'm awfully fond of the direction of draft #66. The expression on the pig's face in the new drafts is very interesting. It's almost as if he smells something very unpleasant. On a more serious note, I do like one element in draft #76 --- the shadow effect you used in that one is very effective for the desired mood of the design. However, I'm not sure that a shadow would fit well or be necessary in the style of the #66 design.
