We would like to give a big "THANK YOU" to everyone who worked on this project. We saw many great designs and truly creative thinking!

Of course, we must pick just one ultimate winner, but I want to give a special note to these folks:

    sarahfisherdesigns
    tomitod999
    cedrain
    vjest

Thank you so much again for all the great ideas!

We've seen a lot of great ideas! I want to THANK everyone again for some real creative thinking.

We're ready to start narrowing the focus...

The idea that we're most on to is something like #98.

    -------------------------------

Aspects of #98 that we like are:

-We like the layout with HIGHLAND on top in a bigger font size.

-We love the curtain rods and finials extending out from the F and E of FORGE, forming a line under HIGHLAND. The F and E thing is very cool. I'm not quite sure if the F and E thing is an absolute must yet but we are leaning that way.

-The font in each word is close to what we are looking for.

    -------------------------------

Here are some ideas for variations:

    1) Different sizing of the elements:

-I think that overall, FORGE and the rods/finials will need to be bigger to show up clearly when this logo is at used at a small size.

-I think the finials could be bigger to make just a bit more of a statement and to be more easily recognized.

-The letters of FORGE could possibly be spaced out a little more?

    -------------------------------

    2) Ideas on font/typeface:

-For HIGHLAND, we're thinking a mild-serif font. Fonts that might be close are:
    #98
    #90
    #81

Are there any fonts like these where the letters are slightly taller (less wide)? Or maybe just with the horizontal parts of the Hs and A a bit higher?

-For FORGE, the closest font might be #98.

Any similar alternatives to this sans-serif?

    -------------------------------

    3) Shape of the finials:

I think there's a lot of room for exploring here.

-I like how the finials are a single color and flat. But maybe they don't need to be a solid fill?

-As mentioned above, they probably need to be a bit bigger.

-Different shapes! I like the amount of complexity in the finials of #98, but there could be better shapes. Maybe something that reads a little more "finial-ly" and less "leaf-y". (So less chance of looking like a brewery logo.) One thing I do like about these #98 finials is that they are not a common, over-used finial shape. I think what we are looking for is a shape that can be understood to be a metal finial, but is unique, elegant, interesting, and a shape that can work at such a small size.

    -------------------------------

    4) Color:

We're not too worried about color, as that can be changed easily enough in Illustrator/PS, correct? (Please let me know if I'm wrong.) But we can certainly look at different colors. Maybe a darker/burnt orange or different shade of gray.

    -------------------------------

    Maybe their are other variations!

I haven't decided yet if the logo should just be flat colors, or if there could be some subtle effects on it...

    -------------------------------

I hope those are some detailed thoughts!

I must say that we are happy in the direction it's going.

    Thanks,

    Mike.

    Hi Folks,

We're still seeing some really great ideas coming in!

I just updated the star ratings, current through design 113.

Later today I will provide a lot of specific feedback.

    Thanks!

For anyone who doesn't mind a bit extra work, I do find it very helpful to see the design in white on black. Not imperative, but helpful. We may have some uses in this format.

Here are some thoughts on the overall logo:

-We are leaning towards wanting a layout with a symbol/icon that is mostly detached from the words. Probably.

-With our end uses of this logo, we won't want the size of the symbol to be overly dominating. (Meaning, it shouldn't be way bigger than the words.)

This is where our thoughts are leaning, but we are not married to these ideas as you will see by the stars.

After reviewing the initial designs, I think I have a better idea as to what we're looking for.

Here are some thoughts on FONT:

The Scottish reference may have sent us down the wrong track a bit. I was probably just giving too much information in the brief! We are not looking for anything Celtic/Scottish/Hobbit-ly or too fanciful. Particularly when it comes to font, we'd like to keep it sophisticated, classy (sorry I know it's vague), traditional but not old, clean, simple, and modern. Some of these words seem to oppose one another, but I think some great examples of fonts that are on the right track are:

    -Restoration Hardware
    -Pottery Barn
    -Helser Brothers

... These are just a few that I'm aware of.

    Also:

-The font probably shouldn't be extremely bold-faced.

-We prefer all caps in both words.
