We have choosen two concepts and presented those to a small comission. They will put in their votes between draft #102 or draft #87/#88. We will make the decision by tuesday.
I wish to thank all designers who joined this contest.
Regarding the 'version' for 50 year anniversary we only want to have a subtle tag line with the text "50 jaar 1963-2013". And all logo's should be on white background (no black background).
What do we like and/or what are we looking for:
We like color combinations in different tints of blue/gray/white.
We like creativity!
We like subtle stylistic logo's
We like a modern and abstract look in designs of a chess piece, with nice lines.
We like the Tekst part of the logo and the Graphic part of the logo to visually appear as one integrated unit.
We like the use of negative space with chess pieces or other elements (white color) as used in some drafts, #3, #30, #41, #43, #50.
The font used for the text in the logo is also an important criteria in the logo design. We do not like just 'a regula'r font'.
We like the creativity used in the fonts used for drafts #28 and #41. The creativity in the 'E' or the 'ss' to give a subtle/abstract association with a river.
We ook for stylistic and creative logo's with a professional visual/graphical appearance.
We have been evaluating all drafts until draft #51.
What we don't like:
We do not like ribbons/banners in the logo's.
We do not like black/white only in logo's.
We do not like red/black as color combination.
We do not like chess pieces on top of the letters.
We do not like letters of the text (De IJssel) being replaced by different chess pieces.
We do not like when too many chess pieces are being used in the logo. (Except in logo #41 and #43. For this logo it is working Ok.)
With too many chess pieces, and/or chess boards added it will look too artificial and not natural. We like it to be stylistic.
Another idea that 'could' be used in the design is "De IJssel" the name of our chess club is the name of a river.
We did not mention it before as we don't want a 'river' in our logo because our logo should be chess related. But it could be added if is subtle and not dominantly present.
Thanks for all the designs so far. Even the designs we are not looking for are helping as to explain better what we really like. So if we eliminate your designs don't be offended and thanks for helping us clarifying what we really like and do not like.
We would like to see creative and stylish designs. Not just a chess figure with some tekst. As such we are not looking for designs like #4, #6, #7.
We do not like a piece of a chess diagram with some chess pieces in it like #10, #12.
Do not add to much different elements in the logo. A chess board, a rook figure and a pawn in one logo is too much, Like designs #9, #11 and #18. We like stylish and creativity but also simplicaty and cleanliness in an design.
Te design should be based on a chess figure and recognizable as such, but creativity is much appreciated. Any design could be fine as long as people will associate it with chess. The designed figure/icon and the tekst should match or integrate well together into a nice logo.
Design #3 we like the use of negative space (figure of knight in white). The font used for the text is too 'regular' and does not make it special.
Design #8 is a great design, but the 'real' knight instead of the 'chess' knight is not what we are looking for.
We like design #13 as best so far. Maybe continu with the concept with only the chess figure without the additional chess board, and bit stronger lines or use of colors to let it stand out a bit better.
Design# 14 is also very nice, but the version for the 50 year anniversary is too much different with the logo twice the size. We would prefer a small tag line integrated in the logo "50 jaar 1963-2013" as it will not change the design too much. We can replace it by a different tag line or leave it out after the celebration year.
Hereby some feedback, after discussing with a fellow member of the chessclub, who is helping reviewing the graphical design.
Colors:
In Chess the colors are about Black and White, but we would do not like designs in black/white.
Keywords we value:
When we look at the psychology of colors in Logo designs,
We value Creativity, Jovial and Fun (Orange)
We value Calm and Confidence (Blue)
We value Seriousness, Calm, subtle (Brown)
We value Cleanliness and Simplicity (White - mainly used as negative space or reversed tekst).
But feel free to use any color combination you think is visually looking great. So you can also use colors like purple, grey but do not use Red, Pink or Black as main colors.
We would like to see a fresh and crisp design. But the design should still be clear/recognizable when printed/copied in black/white.
I'm looking for something special/creative.
To get an idea look at following URL's for examples of chess logo's I really like.

I also like following logo:

And the logo at the top left from the World Chanpionship 2012 in Moscow is very sofisticated.

In the Logo I want to have the tekst "De IJssel" and optionally you can also use the Tekst "Schaakvereniging" followed by "De IJssel". "Schaakvereniging" means Chessclub.
Regarding an extra version for the 50 year anniversary we can also use a tag line. F.e. "50 jaar 1963 - 2013".
MycroBurst permits you to submit unlimited designs with unlimited variations. However, if you are providing 2 or 3 different color versions of the same logo in one draft, please make sure that if the particular draft gets finalized, each color version should be separated before you will send the final files.
