I see that some of you already work along these lines, for others it might help to come up with new ideas.

in designs submitted so far I lack a concept of R&D.
You either make an abstract logo or related to energy/hydro/thermal but not to the innovative substance of business.
I'd appreciate seeing some ideas in this line too.

please avoid using a fire, smoke or flame symbolism in the design.
The company is much more "hydro" than "heat" so far (though it might change in the future). We do build a lot (and lots of R&D are dedicated to construction techniques etc.) but we do not concentrate much on heat so far.
Though energy efficiency is a right connotation (if you manage to express it without flame/smoke).

One thing that I forgot to mention in the description:
the logo will be used with the company name written in two versions: English and Russian.
Therefore, please offer two versions of the logo with two versions of the name:
Territory of Energy // Территория Энергетики

MycroBurst permits you to submit unlimited designs with unlimited variations. However, if you are providing 2 or 3 different color versions of the same logo in one draft, please make sure that if the particular draft gets finalized, each color version should be separated before you will send the final files.
