  Thank-you all. Decided to finalise early since I had become more and more set on #16 and was unlikely to change my mind.
  
  Many thanks for all your entries, including yours ramroum (#13) which I think was very creative and also very close to what I was seeking.
  
  Thanks gerald also for your efforts and everyone else -- especially mvillamin of course!
  
  Factors in my final decision:
  
  - mvillamin's font selection was excellent; this sans is both friendly and professional
  
  - Friendly, effective, minimalist icon/logo supporting the text
  
  - Original colour selection
  
  - mvillamin's design manages to convey the nature my business very quickly, owing to the clarity of the design.

  Also, thanks for the polished-looking #14 & #15, gerald. The reason why I don't rank these as high as the others at the moment is because the others have a friendly quality to them which I'm looking for.

  Thanks mvillamin for the update on #11 with #16. I'm not sure if its better than your original version or not ... I'm thinking about this!
  
  I really like the logo of the man in #13, ramroum. I wonder how he'd look freed from the containing circle? Also, although I like the flare of the text component, it would be interesting to see a "calmer" version -- in particular it's "Larry" I'm thinking about: pros - it jumps off the page & looks friendly; cons - it looks like it could surf ware logo-type.

  I really like these (#10, #11, #12), mvillamin. Well presented (like that a B&W version is shown too) and stylistically sharp/smart. Of the three posted, I find #10 the most clever, and I like the warming effect of the round shape (... could this design be worked so the key symbol looks *more* like a key, but without making the design too complex?) #11 is probably my favourite at the moment -- it seems the most cohesive of these three designs at this stage (this might be because the lighter colour is more balanced with the darker colour). #12 is very solid, reliable looking -- good legibility; I'm still thinking about this one.
  
  Thinking critically of drafts #11 & #12: not sure how the "y" tail is working. I do like it, but it with "the" at its front, it resembles a cigarette in the small B&W versions. Wonder how it would look thickened, or "the" put at its center, even removed so an independent shape is there, or anything else that comes to mind ...

  Drafts #6 & #7 make a fresh take on my orig logo and addresses the problem of the original whereby the text was too small. It's made me realise: yes, I'm probably seeking a *logotype* direction with this design, so "larry the locksmith" (text) is nice and clear, with perhaps a supporting graphical flare. Can #6 & #7 be done in a similar style but with the man reduced (so he is not bigger than the text) and simplified -- i.e. a more abstract/symbolic image of a man?
  
  #4 & #5 head in the right direction in terms of a creating a complete graphical element, i.e. logo and text held together as one element. These designs are interesting, but at the moment are somehow a bit difficult to read. (Love the "S" and key in #5 by the way)
  
  #8 presents a nice, crisp version -- I like the simplicity (this is a plus because it will be easily recognisable at reduced sizes). At its current stage, however, "LARRY" is overemphasised so as to look the brand itself, whereas I want "Larry the Locksmith" to be the complete message.
  
  Many thanks designers for your stuff so far.
  
  Also, feel free to be creative with colour if it helps your design.

  Quite like draft #3. This is probably the way I'd like to go -- incorporating symbol into text. The two tones of blue working well here; contrast of sans and serif fonts seems to work.

  P.S. I don't really want to push the designs one way or the other at this stage until I've seen a variety of takes -- and I'm not confident that I could do so effectively yet either! Thanks, again.

  Hi, thanks for your logos so far. #1 has a pleasant simplicity and I like the thought that's gone into it. Be interesting to see it "made more chunky" -- may beveled edges on the shape or something? Also, the text might be bolder, and perhaos just one colour? Just thoughts. #2 is an interesting take, but too visually complex at this stage, and I'm not sure about the blue on grey text (bit hard to read?) Anywayz, cheers so far.

  I forgot to mention in the brief that this logo will be used on invoice letterhead, van signage, work shirts, and as a header banner on web page.
