We are continuing a local family tradition of friendly auto care since my father opened shop here in 1958. We offer all types of auto repairs- major and minor repairs and service and expert collision repair. We want to build a brand / logo / icon that looks like a corporate franchise and in the future can be franchised. We used the tagline “A Local Family Tradition of Customer Satisfaction SINCE 1958” for a while, but it’s a bit long…My dads business name was "Whiteys Texaco and service station" so not sure if I’m comfortable saying …“Jeff Whites Autoworks…Since 1958”… because the name is different....what do you think?

My original Logo / Icon was a box with a Check in the middle. (Which formed the "J" of Jeff) and behind that was 2 more checks which formed the "W" of White's... "Checked and Double Checked for Excellence" ... We didn’t use that tagline much. On my website www.jeffwhites.com you can see basically what we have been using recently…It was symmetrical before but we decided to try it with the "J" to the Left and the "W" to the right but not really liking it reads J - W better but looked better when I had the J centered between the W ..I will scan a pic of our neon sign that is still like that.

I have recently noticed that my Signature / Autograph somewhat resembles a car... The J is developing kinda like a nose of a car and the way I cross my T is becoming “Tail fin like” ..I toyed around a bit with some concepts and have some very rough sketches but I am compelled to share them for inspiration at least...Not sure how to get those scanned and to you…

After browsing some of your Very impressive projects... I found that I love some of the 3-D aspects… Especially the 3-D oval with the wheel-less car caricature that was presented for “Auto Care Experts”. I noticed on that caricature of the car, that the roof line could become “WRENCH LIKE”…or perhaps the wheel well areas... Have not played with that yet…Just an idea…I mostly did sketches in an effort to incorporate the J of Jeff and the W of White’s into that shape of the caricaturized vehicle?... If they were “Check Like”…Even better!……But it is most important that the car looks like a car.

If we have to use the same J and the same W that accents the car design, in the text “Jeff White’s” to clarify that fact that the car is created by a “J” and a “W”, then so be it, but the car needs to scream that it’s a car and if it also screams Car - Repairs from that Caricaturized icon…Even Better!

My partner wanted to dump the whole Autoworks name and just use “Auto Repair and Sales” but I feel it still needs to appear but maybe not so big…Everyone just knows the business as “JEFF WHITE’S” One design was to have the lower tail of the “S” underline Jeff White’s and have the smaller “ Autoworks” within that letter stroke…The “S” would also create a curvy road going into the vanishing point with dotted lines down the center etc…(He is really liking that aspect.) Then under that put in larger print the Tagline or “Complete Auto Care & Sales” (which spells C.A.R.S.) for example…but we are completely open to suggestions.
Thinking it would be most advantageous to use our ad space, and signage space etc for text that explains what we do (repair cars) as opposed to a larger “Autoworks” especially now that there is a competing body shop using the name Autoworks collision center and is causing a bit of confusion in the marketplace. I don’t want to feel like I am advertizing for them. We struggle with getting people to realize the fact that we are a repair shop because we have all the used cars out front for sale and many people just assume that the shop is strictly to recondition and repair the vehicles we sell. We need the logo to clarify that is Not the Case! In fact the inventory of vehicles out front for with stickers and flags etc. pretty much eliminates the need to mention Auto Sales kinda?! At least on the location signage…print ads maybe would want to mention it…

Would love to see what the original triple check / JW logo would look like with a major face lift and 3-D effects.

Regarding colors: Do you feel people associate mechanical repairs with colors Red and Black and grey ...And collision repair with blues and greys? Are there colors generally associated with used auto sales? We do all 3 but probably would lean towards a mechanical feel…

I am open for suggestion but in order of preference at this time our thoughts are:

---Maroons Greys Black White---or

---Reds Black Greys White---or

---Blues Greys Black White---or

---Oranges Blues Browns---

  3

I do not like the cartoony cars with eyes and mouth etc.

Some designs I saw on Logo Guru that caught my eye were the ones present to---
-Expert Auto Care
-Nadeau Motorsports
-Auto Evolution
-Buckeye Motors

Not sure if you call that an abstract or a caricature but that is the direction I am thinking.
I would love to have an Icon that with a quick glance at the Icon could identify to a first time passer by that this is a car repair facility and appears to be a trustworthy, well established, corporate, multi location establishment. We want the icon to be unique enough that it will not be confused with the other similar caricaturized or abstract car icons. We want that same passer to knows it’s the same company if he sees the icon again in the future. We want to build the brand / Icon and logo and eventually franchise it. We need an Icon that will stand the test of time and have the same message 20 years from now, as we evolve.

In addition to the abstract car Icon we need to lock in the style of the lettering / text.. “Jeff White’s”… (probably in a web 2.0 feel) However The style for the text “Autoworks” and the tag-line is not as important to solidify right now.

This is our Original tripple Check/JW Icon that I was talking about. I would love to see how it would look updated and 3-D and or incorporated into the designs...
