Hockey pool manager - most every office in Canada has a hockey pool going somewhere. I've been in the biz for 15+ years. | ||

I have what is probably a difficult project due to the need for some very original artwork. I run a hockey pool manager - hockeypoolguru.com - that requires a (hockey) guru to brand it. On the existing homepage, the top menu (Login, Demo, Create Pool, Help) and bottom menu (Choose Pool) are to stay in place - if you click the "Demo" menu item you'll see both menus are filled quickly in the application. In addition, the "Choose Pool" popup window in the bottom right is a permanent fixture - it grows in height over time as users enter more and more pools over the years, but not much in width. It is always fixed and floats bottom right so really isn't in the way. It can be minimized by users. What has to change is the middle. I need a professional polished look including a hockey pool guru. He could be made a hockey pool guru by any number of means - skates, stick, helmet, uniform, toothless, etc? Could be humorous or mean I guess, really don't have any fixed ideas on this one. The overall look has to be as professional as possible as Canadians take their hockey pools very seriously - the more the guru can lean toward an nhl logo the better probably but I know that's asking possibly too much (http://www.sportslogos.net/league.php?id=1) and I'm open to alternatives. Naturally the login elements must remain - Season, Pool ID, Password, Login Button (don't need the Bigscreen button) - and the Season must be non-graphical since it has to be populated programatically by JavaScript, ie without graphic intervention. I would have no problem keeping the existing login window for now, as there are excellent red & silver form templates on shutterstock (http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-57930901/stock-vector-red-and-silver-web-forms-design.html) that very much demonstrate the colors and professional look I seek, and plan to take inside the pool manager for a completely professional look inside and out. The sales points (under "Let HockeyPoolGuru manage your hockey pool") need to be worked in and must be changeable by me (ie text - I can use "gimp" gnu image manipulation program for only the simplest of chores). I don't want these to clutter the page too much though, so they could perhaps slide in/out one at a time, come from a talk bubble from the guru one at a time, or be faded into the background a bit - open to ideas there, just don't want them to clutter things too much, almost to the point where I'd leave them out completely if it helped. If they're to slide in/out one at a time I can handle the programming side - just need the space and one of the sales points in it as an example. The most important single element that can't be missed is the "Demo" (currently a very ugly button) - critical to pull in new users. The demo is the real sales point that matters. Right now by my apache logs, for every 20 new users that hit the page only 3 or 4 even hit "Demo" - they just leave - it just looks too mickey mouse right now. Have to turn that around. So within the framework of the existing framework of colors (silver, red, blue - good hockey colors) and top/bottom menus and "Choose Pool" window, I hope there's still enough room to work creatively. Certainly the siler background can be a gradient but should remain in the silver area. Need a clean and professional look - not overly busy - the entire application (click "Demo") is laid out for a clean uncluttered look given the massive amount of data and options it portrays. I am in the Pacific Time Zone and generally get to my PC by 10:00am PST. I've been amazed by the quality of work offered at logodesignguru and already fear having to eliminate some very good work! I know the original artwork may make this impossible, but if no good guru comes out certainly the page around it probably will. |
