Check out the logo at the top of the page on http://www.dslmag.com/v6/ ?
They're a surf culture magazine website. The logo has got the DSL on one side of the crossed 'arrows' MAG on the other- which balances it out nicely. Then a stylized 'D' at the top to represent 'Desillusion' (their name/brand) and the fin symbol from a surf board at the bottom. Maybe a grunge style.
The designs we want can't be too clean, but not too distressed either. If you could pull something off along the lines of this logo we love, you could take it

Thanks for all the excellent submissions.
We'd like to push for one last big flood of designs for the final 24 hours.
No more color- we want to stick with black/white/grey tones.
No more lion symbols (unless you've got something you've been working on for a while). We now want to stick with the anchor/mermaid or other nautical symbols that you feel would work.
No more crossed arrows or oars- we still like the idea of crossed arrows but it needs to be more subtle. Good example is #422

Big thanks for all your submissions over the last week or so. It's been a real pleasure to view all your creative work. We have endeavored to be as respectful as possible under the circumstances- a competition for money that involves elimination. We've had a few disappointing private messages from designers over the past few days- angry as their designs have been eliminated. Other than that, it's been a real pleasure to communicate with all of you.
Cheers to everyone. We'd love to see the foot down on the gas pedal for these last 24 hours.

We now need grunge style lines- less blocky, uniform lines. We can still go modern/cool/simplistic but it needs to have a more relaxed/emotional vibe.
We want to keep going with the circular shape.
We like the crossed arrows or crossed oar symbols.
We like the following symbols: anchor, mermaid, lion.

We've just showed your designs to the guys we're working with on our site and made some decisions.
We're now going to eliminate/drop the star rating of some of the designs we think are brilliant but won't work for the project...

Thanks for posting all the great designs and for trying out the swallow symbols. We'd like to move away from the swallow symbols now- they haven't worked out so far.
We also love the lion symbolism but we'd like to try moving back in the direction of more nautical symbolism.
The mermaid and the anchor symbols work the best for us. The mermaid symbols can be sultry if it looks right.
We like the crossed arrows but the regular crossed lines that mimic the compass rose slightly are fantastic too. Also the crossed oars are great.
Initially we wanted a straight-laced logo but now we realize we need something a bit more edgy to appeal to our audience of the 18-30 age group. Although we still want a beautiful, tasteful design that embodies what we stand for- detailed in the brief.

They're coming along nicely- although the lion is a bit too dominant. The simplistic lion symbols don't work. But we're still liking the idea of the lion.
We'd like to see some more mermaid symbolism- but not too raunchy. Alluring but not too sexual.
Anchor symbols are still really good and we'd like to see the swallow symbols tried out...
Please feel free to continue trying your original simplistic designs as well.

Please look over the designs on the tumblr page above. That is the direction we want to take. If your design is good, and conveys what we ask for in the brief, then we will rate it.
We are always interested in simplistic, great looking design as well- which is why we've kept on some of the designs that don't necessarily fit the style we're asking for.
So whether you can produce a beautiful hipster logo, or an amazing design with a style of your choice, we're very interested in seeing what you can come up with.

We are developing our ideas along with your designs.
We either want something simplistic and professional just using the letters themselves with minimal additions:
i.e. draft #1, 11, 21 are good examples of this.
Or the 'hipster' style logo with minimalist style symbols and our initial letters:
i.e. draft #36, 47, 61...
