  Consider dropping the axe on one side and the pike pole on the other, so there is one of each on either side of the maltese cross. Also instead of 2 stars of life might do one on one side and 5 crossed bugles on the other, the Fire Chief insignia.

  Draft # 9 is very nice. Instead of 2 axes, incorporating a Pike Pole with a wooden handle might be nice. Also, I like the color scheme of #4 a bit better than those in #9.
  
  Draft #9 might try some different color schemes.
  
  I am still open to something unique like #4 and #7.
