With less than a day to go, the winner at this point is clear. It has great art that is appropriate to the time of the book (it's a Cold War novel). It has drama and the type treatment is not plain. The only tweak it needs is that "Best Seller" should not have a hyphen. If you want to come in now and have a shot, you'll need great art and for the cover to look like a best seller you'd find in a bookstore.
#20 has potential, but the plane is wrong. Given the setting of the novel, it should be an F-14. This appears to be an F-35. Also, "New York Times" should not be all caps. It should be mixed-case and italics. And the Ignition Books logo should be smaller, as on your other entry.
#19 is a fine entry, though same issue with "New York Times." Should be mixed case and italics. I also think the type on both #20 and #19 for the text at the top is a bit heavy.
#21 and #22 are fine except you've used F-18s, which are not appropriate to the cover of this book. And they don't have the drama of the other covers. Sorry.
#14, I fear, looks like science fiction. Not sure of the aircraft used, but the treatment to me looks a bit too SF. And the font used is a bit rougher than I would like. Good effort, though! If I had an SF novel that needed a cover, I might use this one!
#13, I just don't like perspective. I can tell you've used two photos here, yet here are many photos available via respected stock photo sites that would work. Also, the font is too rough.
#9 is terrific! How about some "smart quotes," instead of the straight quotes, though? And can we try the title in a sans serif and a different color? Silver?
All art/images used MUST be from recognizable stock photo/art sites and able to be acquired at a reasonable fee. We must strictly adhere to US copyright law and use only those images for which we can acquire the rights.
I like #8 better than #7, however, you've misread the brief a bit. NEW YORK TIMES should NOT be in all caps, just italics. The word "Also:" should not appear, just the quote. I presume you lifted the "Author of PRIMARY TARGET" line off the old cover. It was not specified in the brief and should not have been included.
All in all, a decent draft. Looking forward to seeing what it looks like tweaked, as well as any other ideas. And, last, but not least, I will need to know the source of the art and cost, please.
Entry #2: the title is wrong. It says "DEFONE," not DEFCON. Also, the author's name is no bigger than on the previous version and it must be. And, the word "ONE" is too hard to read. Keep in mind, please, that this will be viewed in a thumbnail size by most buyers at first. Therefore, it needs to work at 1.67" high, meaning the title and author name should be clear in a thumbnail. Last but not least, this is clearly not stock art you just found on the Internet and I will need to know the cost of the art.
Entry #3: Actually works a bit better in terms of readability of the author's name and title in small format. I don't think "New York Times" needs to be in bold. And since this looks like you clipped the art from #2 and turned it black, I would still need to know the source and cost. Also, are you able to give the type an "embossed" look? Something that would give greater dimension? Thank you.
The art is great. What's the source/cost? As for the design, well, that needs a lot of work. As per the notes, New York Times should be mixed case italics. The all caps I used was to indicate italics.
I don't like the title treatment. Too hard to read.

And the author's name should be bigger.
Thank you.
