CARICATURE COVER ART FOR INSPIRATIONAL FICTION EBOOK

The Hair Mavens--She Does Good Hair

  TBD

Women’s contemporary novel. First book—She Does Good Hair—in a series called The Hair Mavens. The story centers around four hair stylists.
Protagonist: Shira Goldstein: twenty-something a Jewish Amy Grant who is very much into latest fashion. She has left a prestigious position at an upscale salon in Manhattan when she inherited her aunt’s (Edna) rundown salon in a small borough outside Philadelphia. She wants to gut the place and turn it into an upscale salon that caters to the Mainline wealthy. The will’s proviso stipulates the mavens must stay with the salon.
Antagonist: Harriet Foster: fifty something, of German descent, known for her giant blond beehive hairdo; probably 30 pounds overweight and a chain smoker (don’t show on cover). Harriet wants to get rid of Shira and all her fancy-schmancy ways, so she can run the salon and keep it exactly the way it is.
Supporting Character: Beulah Montgomery: Another fifty something beautician, gray-shoulder length hair held up by barrettes, about 20-25 pounds overweight, of European/Scandinavian descent. Tends to blend into the background, but was a dear friend and prayer partner to Shira’s aunt Edna.
Supporting Character: Kathy Smith/Katchia Stavropolsky: a twenty-something Jewish Elizabeth Taylor who intentionally hides her beauty behind frumpy clothes, clunky black-framed frames, and rather unkempt curly black hair. Harriet refers to Kathy as the “Mouse”.
THOUGHTS ON COVER LAYOUT
I’ve been using art I’ve found online to begin promotion; see my facebook page: www.facebook.com/AuthorTerriGillespie and www.facebook.com/TerriMacaladyGillespie
Salon scene.
Shira in the foreground, Harriet behind her holding a pick like a weapon, maybe Beulah waving a white towel, and Kathy being mousy.
