1. Company Overview a. Groundswell is a café featuring specialty coffee and fresh food choices, all in a comfortable, modern environment in which to socialize, relax or work (“third place” environment). b. Single origin coffees are roasted on-site. Groundswell celebrates the journey of the coffee bean – high quality green beans are roasted, ground and brewed in-house to provide the ultimate coffee experience. The romance of observing the coffee’s journey from bean to cup is an important aspect of Groundswell’s brand and identity. c. Food items, including fresh market sandwiches and hearty soups, are a highlight of the menu, as opposed to an afterthought. d. Café’s environment is comfortable with modern amenities, including flat screen TVs and free wifi. 2. Company Culture and Personality a. Passionate, knowledgeable, friendly, professional, energetic, curious, motivated, cheerful, caring. b. Company employees are mostly Millennials (age 30 and under). |

1. Possible colors: a. Light green (like un-roasted coffee beans), or other shades of green (avoiding Starbucks green). b. Warm color scheme (red, brown, orange, golden yellow). c. Black and white accents, as needed. 2. Colors to avoid: a. Purple, pink, gray, blue. |

1. Type of Logo Logo can be (a) text-based or (b) combination graphic and text. For the latter option, would preferably like to see graphic placed above text. 2. Possible images: a. Open to image and/or icon suggestions (also open to logo that is text-based without image/icon). b. Possibly link to definition of groundswell: a sudden gathering of force. However, logo should not feel hard or aggressive. c. Like the idea of simple, abstract icons that have “flow”. Image/icon should have organic, natural look/feel. Should also have an element of professionalism. 3. Images to avoid: a. Coffee beans. b. Images that are too literal/associated with coffee. c. Images that are “cutesy”, “frilly” or unprofessional looking. 4. Preferred Font Style Font should be easy to read, but unique. Do not include script or cursive fonts, as these are too upscale for desired brand personality. 5. Text/Copy for Logo Groundswell Café. The visual focus should be on the word Groundswell, with Café as a secondary, much smaller element. 6. Who Are Competitors and What Does Groundswell Think of Their Logos? a. Starbucks Website: http://www.starbucks.com/ Thoughts: Like simplicity of color scheme and flow/movement of icon. Like that logo is completely icon based, but do not think a new company could gain recognition without name in logo. b. Dunkin Donuts Website: http://www.dunkindonuts.com/ Thoughts: Do not like square logo, or roundness of font used in this logo. Colors are not great, and definitely do not like cartoon look/feel of coffee cup. c. La Colombe Website: http://lacolombe.com/ Thoughts: Like the idea of including a graphic subject (e.g. the bird), and the roundness of this logo. Do not like colors or complicated lines/edges. d. Morgan Street Café Website: http://www.morganstreetcafe.com/ Thoughts: Like that this logo is text based, but not much else. Emphasis on “café” is undesirable. Logo is too simple and not memorable. |
