Thanks to everyone who participated. There were many terrific submissions. If you're interested, I believe you'll see that the winning image does reflect all of the guidance that we provided.

We wish to thank everyone for all their hard work and wonderful designs. We've been very impressed with the quality of submissions. We'll now carefully consider the options and make our final decision over the next several days. Thanks again!

OyAlloy - We really like #256. If you're interested, we'd like to see some variations that look less like the North Star and more like a compass. (We might end up liking the star idea, but very curious about something that reads more like a compass.) Very impressed with the clean concept of just adding those three small elements to boldly "suggest" a compass!

Sikamacoy - Could you make a variation of #248 that could be just black and white (i.e., just extend a thin black line down the right ridge of the "mountain"). Thank you.

Hi, I just saw your comment - will work on that.
I also just submitted another "sharkfin" =) - but even so- do you prefer it like in #187 or is this even more dressed off version interesting?

    Thanks / Maria

Hi Maria - #187 is pretty nifty. We'd be interested in seeing a version that looked a bit more like a "mountain" shape and a bit less like a "shark fin" shape (a common issue). We do love the bold design, so we'd talking minimal tweaks -- i.e., keeping the strong, bold approach but changing the shape just a bit.

There is truly some exceptional work here! OyAlloy -- very impressive, and really meets the criteria we've set forth. Would you be willing to make a variation of #169 so that it's reads (is more obviously) as a compass? Perhaps by adding some points of a compass as negative space? (You're current design is truly elegant, but we believe it needs a bit more to convey "adventure travel" as opposed to some other concept.) Also, would you be willing to make the secondary peak a bit more evident in #134? Are smaller sizes, we're worried that that second peak disappears and you lose some of the power of the logo. Both of these (actually, all of your) designs are remarkable -- we hesitate to offer this type of specific guidance given that you obviously have a terrific eye / design sense, but both of these requested variations get to the underlying business purpose.

To assist you, we are going to "re-rate" all the designs so that the ratings provide more direction. (We respect all your work, so please do take the ratings personally!)

Just to add and clarify... Unlike the Nike swoosh, we do prefer a logo that is of something(s) that is somewhat recognizable (e.g., a mountain(s), a compass). In other words, we're definitely not looking for just and abstract shape. The reference to the swoosh was solely about the power and simplicity. In other words, most of the designs submitted thus far ARE headed in the right direction. Perhaps a better example is the logo for Mountain Hardware (although we don't love that specific design).

After seeing all the terrific concepts to this point, we wanted to try to summarize our thoughts. We're responding best to designs that move towards being bold, powerful, simple, and iconic -- not "designy." Think the Nike "swoosh" design. (Yeah, we know that's a super-high standard, but you guys are good!) We're liking designs that are simple without being simplistic, and that can still "read" when used in one color and at very small sizes (e.g., as the site avatar on the tab of a web browser). Also, don't worry much about the text -- both because we are looking for a logo that we'd use by itself and because we're preferring seeing "Treksetter" in a non-designed, sans serif font. We hope that our guidance is helpful, and we are thankful of all your hardwork and genius!

petert - #84: Wonderful work. We're wondering if there's a way to push this a bit further in terms of making it more straightforward and bold. Perhaps one way would be to revise this to be just a one color design.

creativepic - #74: If you're interested, we'd be curious to see a more lightweight version of this design - somewhat along the lines of what you did (as shown in your portfolio) for your winning logo for Beautiful Technologies. You don't need to be too literal in revising -- we can see that this current design has good "balance," and making the lines "thinner" might throw things off. In other words, feel free to do what makes sense to be more lightweight, but still balanced, etc. Thanks for all your efforts.

Hey, you guys are good! What the stars mean: 0 = we're stilling thinking; 1 = not quite what we're looking for; 2 = some useful elements, but doesn't quite work overall; 3 = a number of strong elements, but missing something in concept or execution; 4 = very strong concept and execution, definitely a promising direction; 5 = we're near the end and this is a top contender. Note: Some 4s could become 5s (or even win) as we get towards the end of the contest.

If you're looking for potential variations or new approaches, type "compass logos" into Google image search for some great ideas. The points of a compass imply travel and adventure (of all types), but still have an inherent simplicity that allows for a clean design. One idea that we really like is seen in this very clean logo -- perhaps it will inspire you:

Really cool ideas! If you're looking for ideas for the "shape" of a mountain (i.e., interesting ridgeline and shadows), you might want to consider the Matterhorn in Zermatt, Switzerland. Simply type "matterhorn" into Google image search and you'll see the classic southwest face of this amazing mountain.

Thank you for all your efforts thus far! The star ratings provide some early feedback regarding the designs that we're finding to be most suitable. We definitely appreciate those who show variations of their core design (i.e., different color backgrounds, single color version, different sizes) as that helps us to visualize all potential contexts.
