I'm naming mdsgrafix as the winner with 193-196 as the winning designs... congratulations.

Also validesign, I liked your work enough that I've made an offer to purchase it as well. This contest was EXTREMELY CLOSE.

Thank you also to all those who participated. Great work all around. Wish I could pick them all.

Thank you all for your designs. I think I have a pretty good idea what I want to do, but I'm going have a couple friends give me quick second opinions and I'll go from there.

Designs #147, #148 and #149 by aurelizza is a derivative of http://www.soccerpad.com/images/barclays-logo_54.jpg, therefore have been taken down.

If this gives you guys an idea of what I like, I think my favorites so far are #132 and either #137 or #138, not sure which color I prefer.

Other top choices so far are 76 and 108 (though it still needs work) and 104 (though the triangle shape makes it not look solid).

Hope this give you guys and idea of what styles I really like.

The geometric ideas are good, but I think I want something with a recognizable icon.

Thank you to everyone who has participated so far for your excellent designs. I hope this helps to clarify my preferences and therefore makes you more efficient and effective as we move forward.

I'm more concerned about design than color at the moment as we still have a few days to figure that out... but eventually I'd like something that would look good on a white background, and something that would look good on a black background (this can be two different colors if necessary, or adding a box around the logo or whatever).

Again, this is not a priority YET, but something to keep in mind eventually.

Feel free to try different colors. I'm seeing a lot of red/gray, which is a fine color combination, but certainly not the only one.

Also, we might consider framing the logos in various ways or adding various backgrounds to them. Especially the asymmetrical ones, to give them a more symmetrical shape.

In the name VanDeHey... If you use capital and lower case letters, the V, D and H are Capitalized.

Obviously this doesn't matter if you are using all caps

also don't go too overboard with making them match... I'd prefer 2 great logos that kind of go together over 2 mediocre logos that match each other perfectly.

Feel free to try "VanDeHey" with uppercase and lowercase letters... as opposed to just "VANDEHEY"

I like how 27 and 28 subtly incorporate VIP into the logo

The designs of the companies should work well together, but that doesn't mean they need to be the same or almost the same.

Just having similar colors and style, or some element in common is enough.

I like the shield and wing concept, but it needs a more serious look if it's going to work.

I know I said the VanDeHey Investment Partners logo should include VIP... and it would still be good if it did. But it's not absolutely necessary.

The stuff I post in these is for everyone...

If I have comments about a very specific design I'll tend to handle those through individual messages to the designer so this stays less cluttered. If anyone has questions, feel free to message me. I'll check in regularly.

I like the solidness of #9

Also I've posted an example of the 2 company concept I'm talking about

Keep in mind that there are 2 companies here.

They should have their own individual logos, but they should be similar enough in style/color etc. for there to be continuity.

    Other symbols of strength include:

A shield... or sword and shield

    A knight's helmet

    The earth/sun/moon

A tree (also grows which is good)

    a coin

    a castle

    a pheonix

    I love the column.

Other traditional symbols of strength could be lions (strong, king of beasts), or wings (guardian angel/free as a bird).

in case either of these inspire ideas for anyone

    Quick note.

"VanDeHey Investment Partners" and "VanDeHey Capital" are two separate businesses.

They are related and work together, but there is no business called "VanDeHey Capital Investment Partners"

So I need two similar logos, not one logo for both.

I'll make more specific design comments later this evening.
