    Heena,

thanks for taking the time to read my comments. Can you try making the shape more of a circle and less of an oval? I really want it to look like this: http://www.ensostudio.com/images/enso.gif with a nice thick line. Also, please use the sun that we have in our logo with the rays. Please change the word Zone to green.

    Thanks.

    Hi everyone,

I met with my sustainability committee tonight to go over the logos so far, and we have some very specific feedback.

We like the idea of having the logo graphic be enclosed in either a circle or a sun, but we don't want it to be a perfect circle. We would like it to look more like the Japanese enso: http://www.ensostudio.com/images/enso.gif.

Also, we would like something that represents the city of Vancouver BC. For example, instead of skyscrapers, we might want to see the Vancouver skyline which looks something like this http://nathanz.files.wordpress.com/2008/11/vancouverskyline.jpg. There are lots of other shots of Vancouver's skyline if you Google it.

As for colours, please stick to the colours in #16 or very close. These are the colours that we are most fond of. For font, the committee has decided that they want to use the same font as the original Strathona logo: http://strathconabia.com/assets/images/logo.gif.

Izmild, #14 was popular, so try to build on that with these suggestions.

Raindesign, #16 was popular too. Please try it with the font in the other logo and try to incorporate a picture that is also follows these suggestions.

    Thanks everyone.

Hi Maxmix, thanks for the entry. We would like a maximum of 3 colours in the design please. Also, I think we want to keep away from things like hearts as we are targeting a business audience. Thanks.

Attention to designers! Please upload a single design per submission. Design submissions with multiple logos of even same concept will be deleted. Thanks

one more thing...Strathcona is not an area where there are lots of very tall buildings. A logo that uses skyscrapers to represent businesses will not resonate with the business owners in this area. Also, they should not be thought of as faceless businesses. They are small, locally-owned companies and each one has its own unique identity.

Some of the logos with tall grey buildings do not capture this feeling as much, although I do think those logos are moving in a good direction.

    keep up the good work.

I have an idea for a design that would be interesting to see if anyone is looking for a new idea. The Strathcona Green Zone is really about more than the environmental side of sustainability. We're also celebrating a vibrant and diverse community of businesses and artists. It would be interesting to see a design that is an abstract of an artist painting the side of a building (representing a business), and the paintbrush being (very subtly) a leaf.

    Just an idea...

also, I really find myself drawn more to the designs that use serif fonts with small caps. They seem to be more elegant.

    Thanks.

Thanks InfiniGroup. Can you please make the sun more like this one: http://strathconabia.com/assets/images/logo.gif.

And can you please make the leaf the same design as the yellow one in #22.

Also, there seems to be something a little faded about the colours you are using in the Name. Can you please try to make them a little more vivid and vibrant.

    Thanks.

InfiniGroup - interesting design! One thing that I'd like to stay away from is the use of gradients on the fonts (or on the designs for that matter). I'd really like to stick with solid colours. I like something along the lines of the font style and colour of #16.

I'd like to see what your design would look like with the font cleaned up, and the buildings a darker blue like the font in #16. Then maybe you could turn the green arrow into the shape of the leaf you currently have on top, and make the yellow leaf a quarter of a sun like the "o" in #16. It would be great to see what that would look like, if you can. Thanks so much.

Thanks everyone for the submissions. I've eliminated a few for the following reasons...

Dave0585, I didn't understand the symbolism in the graphics and how it related to the initiative.

Cheliland, these designs are nice, but much too complex. We are looking for something a little simpler.

Heena, this is a little too web 2.0. We don't want to have something that relies on shadowing to look good. We want to be able to print in colour or black and white and also on swag such as t-shirts or cups. Solid colours are best.

Also, if everyone could please take a look at www.strathconabia.com and http://strathconabia.com/assets/images/logo.gif to see our existing branding that we want to tie in with, as specified in the design brief.

Izmild, #10 is interesting, but I think it may be a little generic. I'm going to look, but I think I've seen a logo like this before.

Raindesign, good start. I like the use of colours in #16, and also the sun in Zone. Good understanding of our design goals. I'm not sure about the swirl underneath. Maybe you could try some another abstract mark??

    Thanks everyone.

Thank you for your initial designs. #1, #2, #3, and #4 were eliminated because they do not convey the intended message. Remember that Strathcona is a community that wants to be known for its vibrant, diverse, and sustainable community of businesses and artists. We need a logo that is fresh and inviting. #1 and #2 are too busy. #3 and #4 do not convey a message. The symbol in the logo should not be an initial. Please be sure to read the design brief carefully before submitting designs.

Thanks for the effort, and please keep them coming! We look forward to seeing more designs.
