Sorry for not adding a comment sooner -- Christmas and New Years kept me pretty busy.

Thank you very much to all designers who contributed to the Inxtech contest. I greatly appreciate your time and talent.

There was a lot of discussion between me and the site about box1508's design. He originally submitted the design in September for the "Pegora Makes You Rich" contest:
    https://www.mycroburst.com/contests/pegora-makes-you-rich/users/box1508

As he didn't win that contest he retained rights to the design and resubmitted it as draft #286 for the Inxtech contest. I made some requests to box1508 and this resulted in drafts #287 and #298. #299 was an additional improvement.

What really caught my eye about the abstract mark used in these designs is that it is a type of Mobius strip. Mobius strips are interesting mathematical objects and as my background includes math and computer science it was immediately appealing. More about Mobius strips here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%B6bius_strip

I really enjoyed the contest although having some of the top designers banned part way through was rather unfortunate in my opinion. I hope the site finds a way to allow designers to continue to contribute to contests they are already involved in even if they are blocked from entering new contests.

Thank you again to all designers who contributed drafts. I wish everyone great success in 2011!

    @designXtra (or @box1508?)
Wow you really got that. Nice effort. I didn't copy, in fact it was derived from a letter "O" of a font called "Cube". Search it. Maybe the designs on your link were derived from that too. OK. Should you post this earlier, I would withdraw that design of mine, on ethic.

    BTW, double account? dude..

    Congrats!
Now I know in someway we actually can replicate somebody else' works, simply by tweaking it a little here and there, say that it's all you, and voila! easy money...

    @zerin74,
    Thank you :D
It's quite a journey to go there too. Done a short research on phonetics nature of the word and its letters. :)

    Designers,

Thank you for your continued interest in the Inxtech Project, I appreciate every draft you submit.

I'd like to make a few general comments:

    1) As mentioned in the original design brief, the logo needs to project an image of stability, reliability, and trustworthiness. Abstract triangular marks can certainly project stability as the triangle is a very stable shape when the base is on the bottom (draft #196 for example). However if a triangle is upside down (one of the "points" facing down) it becomes an unstable image. (I like the triangular marks but am also interested in circles or other interesting ideas. I don't want to limit it to only triangles.)

    2) I prefer abstract marks that do not use shadows to create a floating effect. I don't mind shadows as such, just not the floating effect.

    3) Mirror effects on the text or abstract mark look very nice on-screen but I don't think they will transfer well to a matte white business card.

    4) I may not be able to replicate high-gloss (shiny) effects when the logo is printed on business cards. I like some of the submitted drafts that use gloss effects, I'd be interested in seeing how things look without the gloss though.

I think that is all for now, I really look forward to seeing your drafts!

    rbdesign10's #98 #99 #100 & #101 is a replica of Mycroburst winning design (http://www.mycroburst.com/drafts/display/contest/4591/draft/97518), therefore have been taken down.

Thank you designers for your continued interest and work on this logo project! Some amazing talent here.

I'm trying to keep up with the submissions that are coming in, adding stars to some and eliminating others. I hope no one takes the eliminations personally, I never mean it that way. If I don't eliminate I think it makes it more difficult to see the direction I hope the project will head.

I really like some of the abstract marks that are being submitted. Many of the abstract marks submitted to date however (even some of the ones I really like) have four key points to them. I think I mentioned this in the original project brief but 4 is not a good number in Japan. Unfortunately the number four has the same pronunciation as the character for death so the association is not good in many people's minds. (#9 is also not a good number here, it is associated with suffering.)

Inxtech has two divisions but really there are three distinct activities -- importing, exporting, and technology consulting. Perhaps an abstract mark using three main pieces (instead of 4) could have the additional symbolism of representing the three types of business we do? The company name was also made from these three things (import = in, export = x, technology consulting = tech, giving In + x + tech, Inxtech) so that would tie the abstract mark and the name together quite nicely.

Thank you again to all designers for your interest and hard work, I really appreciate every submission!

Thank you again to all the designers who are contributing drafts to this project! I really appreciate your time, effort, and talent.

I have really enjoyed looking through all the drafts and am very happy with the high level of response the project has received. Tonight I eliminated drafts that seemed likely to cause pronunciation confusion by splitting the logo into "inx" and "tech". I feel this would encourage a pronunciation of "inks tech" instead of "in ex tech". I also eliminated logos that had elements that made them a lot harder to read, or that didn't project the corporate image we are hoping for. Finally, I eliminated some color variations to narrow things down somewhat. I don't mean anything personal at all by eliminating logos and I would be really pleased if designers who have been eliminated reworked their designs and resubmitted.

Reviewing all the drafts also helped me see a few more things about what is important to me with regards to the logo:

    1) Smooth horizontal flow. Many of the stylized X characters are very well done but if they stand out too much they make the logo difficult to read and really break the flow. Of the drafts submitted thus far I feel that #49 has the smoothest horizontal flow while still slightly separating the X. I am hoping that @aerodynamics will submit a few similar drafts in different colors.

    2) Fonts: I really prefer the thicker (bolder) fonts like the ones used in (for example) #49, #25, and #11. It's not that I like *only* those exact styles (though they are nice), more that I prefer the thicker/bolder strokes of fonts like that due to the image they project.

    3) Overall image: The Japanese business world tends to be conservative. I wish it wasn't so, but it is what it is. Therefore I would prefer a logo that projects a corporate image as Inxtech deals with conservative corporations that are much larger than we are. I'm still hoping to incorporate a bit of modern unique/creative flair into the logo but as mentioned in the original project brief we need to project an image of "stability, trustworthiness, and reliability".

    4) Logo type: I'd really like to see a few more logos that include unique abstract marks. I've seen some projects with drafts that include amazing abstract designs and I'm interested in seeing what could be come up with for Inxtech.

Thank you again to all contributors for your interest in the Inxtech project!

Thank you to all the designers who have submitted drafts!

Some general thoughts and feedback based on the drafts submitted thus far:

I like the idea of using the X as a design point by stylizing it as some drafts currently do. I like the appearance this gives and it encourages the correct pronunciation of the company name (in ex tech).

Using color or design to split the logo into "inx" and "tech" seems logical based on how the name was created (two divisions, import/export and technology). However it has the unfortunate side effect of making it seem like the name is pronounced as "inks tech" instead of "in ex tech". Although I like some of the concepts that use this design (#26, #24, and the font in #8), I don't think I would be able to select a design that splits the logo in this way.

Business cards in Japan are almost always based on a white background. If a logo has a non-white background the only way I could make that work would be to surround the logo with the background color while leaving the rest of the card white. I would prefer not to do this unless there was something very unique/cool being done with negative spaces or something similar. Therefore unless there is a really strong reason for a background color I would like to keep the background white and have the color in the logo itself.

Fonts: I definitely prefer fonts with bold strokes, it gives the logo a sense of stability. I also like the drafts that have smooth horizontal connections between the letters. For example, I like the flow created by the font/letters/design of #25. I see this in some other designs as well but #25 is the one most pleasing to my eyes so far.

Colors: Originally I asked for a logo using medium to dark blue with accents of yellow, gold, or silver. However at the current time my favorite draft is #25 and that uses blue + red rather than yellow/gold/silver. So, let's add red to the mix as an accent color option. If you have another idea that you feel would contrast well against blue I'm interested in seeing that too.

Sorry that this turned into a bit of an essay! I will leave individual comments on some drafts as well. If you have questions about anything please PM or just reply in the comments. I'll try to be as interactive as possible during the design process.

Thank you again for your submissions, I'm really looking forward to working together on this project!

I should perhaps have also mentioned that the company name is pronounced "in ex tech".

If anyone has questions or if some part of the description isn't clear please feel free to PM me.

I will try to provide feedback and participate with many comments. Thank you for checking out the Inxtech project!
