Creative Brief

Tablet computer retailer, Liquid Touch Ltd, wants logo

Liquid Touch

Simple, colourful, non-technical, "human friendly" design wanted to appeal to families in the market for sound practical advice and competitive prices for tablet computers. I want to express the fluidity of a tablet's interface, and perhaps how it allows for fun, creative expression and communication with ease at ones finger tips. A simple, colourful and a “touching” visual message will appeal. Wacom have interesting ideas, Nokia splendid new colours, Microsoft have a lovely simplified interfaces in Phone 7/Windows 8, Apple have gorgeous life-like UI. Can you help me to express this trend away from tech and towards simple, colourful, fun and useful gadgets?

Thanks CreativeSpoiler. I have eliminated #83 and retained #84 as multi touch is inferred from the latter. As a design, I find this a little busy and struggle to imagine this as a recognisable brand. For me, I want to see something at a distance and immediately identify recognisable strong type or/and image to identify the brand. In my case, less is more; reduction of detail to a simplified expression of my brands intent is my preference. And thanks Smartinfo. I'm looking for more of an organic design, I find these quite "computer-y" (I'm guilty of having made up a word there, sorry!). I'm targetting mums and dads with geeks and grans, these might be a bit too technical and, er, "computer-y". Darn, said it again...

Hi, I've recently eliminated a number of designs; if one or more of those is yours, thankyou very much for your time - each design has bough in something interesting. I would like to talk about the ones left, and what I like about them: The design of #11 shows more than one finger. This demonstrats a multi-touch well, and is a distinctive icon. Some like the "strong" font on this, others find the it too techie and "yesterdays sci-fi". #34 to #39 have amazing colour. Really simple, approachable "human" branding with clean and interesting graphics. The problem I have with these designs 'though is I'm not sure they capture my brand, which is about the interaction between a person and a tablet computer via a fluid, free flowing user interface. #49 is an intruiging design. It's not actually what I am after in terms of brand communication and I cannot imagine how it would look on printed headed stationary, but it is one of the designs people comment on. #54 is a popular design amongst those I've shown this to. In terms of graphics, it does reflect more "liquid" than "touch" but it is a clean well thought out and designed logo. Several people have had their interest held by the design of #63. While some say it contains an interesting picture, it does not, to me, reinforce the goals or objectives of my brand. #68; I like something about this, the colour and softer font, but it works less well to me than its original (#11). #73 is a stylish design, to me. I'm not sure it works better than one of its originals (#54). Again, something that expresses touch or even multi-touch in addition to liquid would be good. There are some good designs in here, could we have some more? Thanks. Thanks, Richard.

There's some good ideas coming through but keep it more human and/or colorful, than technical. I don't want to see a picture of a tablet PC on my logo; it's a turn off for me. Think of flowing interfaces, and how people engage with it. For example, think of the surface not being glass but instead a viscous liquid with a finger rippling the surface vividly pumping in the colours of the rainbow as the finger brings the surface to life. While that may not be a pragmatic proposition for a working logo as carefully conceived simple designs usually work best, it shows that I’m into the engagement of a person with a tablet much more than any tech that sits behind it. #5 clever use of Android unlock screen idea but I need something technology agnostic or tech free. #11 I like what you've done. The hand is well drawn and it really brings to mind to me what interaction with a tablet is all about. And it print easily and stands out. #15 although that's not quite what I'm looking for, I like the use of colour around the simple image. #18 and #20 sweet little colourful identities #34,#37 funky, fun, distinctive with lovely colours; although I struggle to think of #34 as a brand because it looks a bit like a spaceship and doesn’t adequately communicate “touch”, which is more important to communicate to customers than “liquid”. Thanks everyone for your hard work, please keep them coming in.

I'll see if I come up with something different. I must say I enjoyed your "watery grave", I got a giggle out of that. Hopefully I can come up with something more to your liking.

Drafts #3 and #4; I'm sorry but the drowning touch sensitive power button is heading for a watery grave. The interpretation of the two seperate words into this image is too literal; please re-read the design brief.
